Hormone Replacement Therapy
Tex or Polly or anybody, could you tell me why HRT is not recommended for MC?
Thank you so much....
Thank you so much....
Hi Marsha,
Hormones stimulate MC. The supplemental hormones in HRT or contraceptives almost always activate MC. There are exceptions for a few women using bioidentical treatments, but it normally triggers MC, unfortunately. Even implants under the skin are usually a problem. The only way to be sure about a treatment is to actually try it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

one of the main reasons why medication based hormone treatments impact MC'ers is because the medications deplete key nutrients like B6, magnesium and zinc - all of which are key for healthy low inflammation digestion, and very key to immune system function. medication based hormone treatments also interupt methylation cycle (which impacts conversion of B group vitamins into active forms along with the bodys detox system.
using bioidentical creams has far less impact on this.
additionally - alot of the symptoms that the medications are prescribed to assist are generally due to nutrient deficiencies, so the medications are a band aid, they are not treating the root cause.

I would think that would be less likely to cause problems since the body already naturally produces DHEA. But that's just a guess.

Linda
my understanding about DHEA is that it is part of hte methylation cycle. sometimes supplementing with it will not fix the issue if the process before and the process after it in the methylation cycle is disjointed...
check the diagrams of the full cycle and where DHEA sits,

ok
have been at work this morning but starting to find some of the resources that show the pathway and linkages
sometimes taking DHEA on its own wont resolve the issue...

this is great article explaining the cycle and key inputs into optimising the pathway/cycle
