Awful taste in my mouth
Recently I have had 3 or 4 nights where I wake up with a bad taste in my mouth - and by bad, I mean awful, rancid, vomit-like. Not the "metallic" taste that I read a lot about. This is really putrid! It only seems to happen during the night, or I wake up in the morning that way. I have been eating a very restricted diet the past few weeks (cut out calcium, gluten, and soy), trying to figure out this whole new lymphocytic colitis diagnosis, and have also completely cut out fluoride (drinking bottled water and no fluoridated toothpaste, since fluoride treatment at the dentist has made me vomit in the past.) Could the bad taste be caused by a vitamin or mineral deficiency? I take calcium and vitamin D (though I need to change my vit D since I just realized the one I have been taking has soy) but do not take a multi vitamin since in the past, the multivit I was taking gave me terrible reflux. Any ideas?
This may sound far-fetched, but maybe it's due to anxiety, which would make it a side effect of magnesium deficiency. A bad taste in the mouth is a common symptom of anxiety. Been there, done that. Are you taking any magnesium?

Hi Tex,
3 days ago I started using a topical magnesium lotion. I'm rather afraid of the oral because I had tried it once a few years ago and had stomach problems from it (that was pre-LC issues). It was 250 mg mag oxide (although "other ingredients" also listed magnesium stearate, among other things)

We can only absorb about 2–4 % of magnesium oxide, which makes it pretty much worthless for use as a supplement. Skin applications of magnesium oil or lotion work, but it takes a lot of coverage and repeated doses to be able to absorb much magnesium.

Lou,
I take Kirkman Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate ~ 3x/day along with 1,000 IU Vit D 3x/day. I round it out with Vit B ~ Thorne Methylguard Plus 3x/day. I just reordered the Mag and Methylguard this AM ~ it’s not cheap (@$40/bottle) but works very well.
I hope the bad taste goes away ~ it’s tough getting things worked out in the beginning but hang in there!!!
