Natural grocers.com (Lucy)

Post by celia »

Luce asked about where to buy natural non-toxic cleaning products. Try checking:

natural grocers.com
needs.com
iherb.com

Also, natural grocers.com has a terrific price on Lara Bars for those of us who live out of the way and not at all close to a Whole Foods or the like. They are listed for $1.43 on the site, but I just bought some for my husband via telephone and they were only $1.35. Lara Bars go for $2.43 at our local health food/coop, so this is a real find!

Good luck with finding what you need.

Celia,

Thanks so much for the information.

Btw, You asked for a website or something several days ago, and all I can tell you is that I went backwards through some of the links on one of the sites you posted is all I remember, so you might want to check through your post (think it was yours?) as deep as you need to search to find whatever it was that you were looking for.

So sleepy now that can't think.
Thanks again for the information.

Btw, At Dr. Fine's seminar thingie in Dallas next weekend, he's having an environmental doc talk about those types of sensitivities, so it should be quite interesting. Are you interested in those kinds of issues?

Yours, Luce

Hi you two!

Larbars are one of the few "bought" safe snacks for "cavepeople". BTW, there is an article about Lara and how she started her business in the latest People magazine. Thanks for the tip about the price.

Luce, I am very interested in the environmental sensitivities lecture. I am counting on you to take good notes to share with us.

Love,

Polly

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say that we really like the pecan ones. Finished the last of those yesterday, the it's already gone out in the trash. Haven't read what's in 'em in a long, long time, but must not have any grains if it's caveperson food. I didn't know cavepeople ate bars though. Ya live and learn!

By the way, we'll need to stock up on those for our Dallas excursion. Maybe we can get Mom to switch over to those instead of regular gf desserts.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what the hotel chef will come up with for our lunch and evening meal on Saturday? If it's really delicious, I'll try to worm some information out of the chef to bring back here for whoever would like to have his/her recipes.

Btw, that particular building is about 37 stories, so hope the chef doesn't make any mistakes. Can you imagine what all that flushing at the same time could do? Ha! Actually, think it can be quite destructive when they all are flushed at the same time.

Reason I think it's 37 stories is that there's a nice formal dinning room on the 37th floor. Sure hope all of our things will be closer to our room since we'll have Mom along in the wheelchair. Her legs are really swelling lately. Have her some new tube socks to wear on the trip, and plan on getting more, now that we know the size is good.

Aren't therapeutic tube socks about the same pressure as Ace wraps, Polly? Mom has some other types of full length pressure stockings, even some that were custom made, supposedly.

It was really sad, but back when those were new, my hands would be so painful and stiff in the mornings that I could not get them to work well enough to get them on my mother until she was already up out of the bed, so most of the time, I couldn't get them on her.

Since the beginning the gf diet, my hands haven't bothered me at all, but about that time, she was put on a vasoconstrictor which made that type of swelling much less of a problem. That treatment lasted a pretty long time, but this last year, she's had to be put on Fluronef, unfortunately. Once Mom's totally unable to walk, I'm not sure whether or not she could return to the vasoconstrictor as I know that sometimes those with this Multiple Systems Atrophy are not even able to sit up without the blood pressure dropping to the point of syncope.

Anyway, I just monitor her constantly for the first major sign of worsening heart failure, but she's already on such a low dose that it's incredible how much difference in fluid retention it makes in her legs.

Mom's been all positive about the weekend in Dallas, and we hope that it will be an easy trip for her, and that she'll even enjoy herself, despite not being able to hear anything. Fortunately, some of the sessions are only about 30 minutes, running back to back speakers, and I'm sure that we'll periodically need to take turns taking her to the handicap restroom or even to lie down and prop her feet up a bit. Probably, we should just plan ahead to take turns on Saturday afternoon during the topics of less interest to us, particularly since those are the shorter ones, and she should be tired by then. Anyway, I plan on taking notes at the big lecture Saturday morning, and hopefully, during the chem. sensitivity one. Maybe all three of us will be able to attend that one, particularly since there's a nice break in the evening before dinner.

Think it'll be warm, and not much chance of rain, at least in the early part of the trip.

Did anyone know that there's a big mall attached to the Adam's Mark in Dallas? If so, do you know if it would be easy to push a wheelchair directly over into the shopping area?

Btw, My sis suggested that I look up gf restaurants in Dallas, just to see if that turned up anything. Maybe I'll do that tonight if I don't get too sleepy. Wouldn't it be something if there were a healthfood store right there in that mall and close to where it's connected to the hotel? A nice restaurant for Friday would be nice as well as I'll probably be tired of the food we'll be carrying along with us by then.

Also, does anyone know whether or not the rooms will have a small frig or microwave? Might have to move them from handicap rooms to open up the space, however.

OK, Polly, I'll do my best. Hopefully, they'll have good handouts and refs for all the lectures. It just seems as though I've heard of the Dr. Rea guy who's doing that chemical sensitivity lecture. Do you know who he is? Apparently his office is in Dallas as well.

Sure wish we all could be there. Last I heard there was space available, so ya'll come, ya hear!

Yours, Luce

Lara Bar

Post by celia »

Andrew,

They are made of 'real food, raw food.' The cashew cookie bar has dates and cashews. The cherry pie bar has dates, almonds, and dried cherries (I think). There's more. You can check them out on www.larabar.com

You can buy them in many health food stores and they have them cheap at naturalgrocers.com

gluten free, dairy free, soy free, vegan, kosher, etc.

They are great. Many people on the forum eat thm without a problem. But the natural sugar content is still too high for me.
