nausea and "woozy" head

Post by GrammyLou »

Hi all,

I am a newbie here and still trying to figure this all out. I just sent off my "package" to Enterolab today and am waiting for results. I'm afraid to see the results, actually. It seems like everything I eat makes me feel like crap. Seems like I usually feel okay through most of the day, but after dinner time is when I'm the worst. I had 3 really good days, but then went out to dinner to Famous Daves. I talked with the manager and thought I made safe choices, but by the time we got home, I was feeling woozy-headed and slightly nauseous. Then I got crampy a couple hours later. Today I felt better, but now tonight, after dinner, I am feeling nauseous and woozy again. I don't seem to read others complaining of nausea. It's funny, I almost never have problems with more frequent bathroom trips...but when I do go, it's always puffy poo. My problems always seem to be slight headache, that woozy, slightly off-kilter feeling, and nausea, often followed by cramping. I think I'd rather have the diarrhea. This weird head thing is just awful :( I sure hope I learn something from the Enterolab testing. I'm pretty sure I have been gluten and dairy free for the past couple of weeks. I think it might be soy that's getting to me. So many hidden places to look for it! I appreciate this forum. It's nice to be able to vent to people who understand how difficult this is...

Louise,

Back when I was reacting, nausea was my regular companion. I didn't realize it at the time, but I had a chronic magnesium deficiency. Nausea is a symptom of magnesium deficiency.

What are you having for dinner that's resulting in those symptoms?

I had nausea at my worst when I was just beginning my journey into healing....then once I ditched the food proteins I was reacting to and started on a really good VitD3 and Magnesium regimen that fuzzy head and nausea thing started to clear up right away for me.

Good luck! You can do this :-)

Louse,

Have you seen the thread at the following link?

Do you have a solution for nausea?

HI Louise,
I was diagnosed 5 years ago and am now in remission but nausea was absolutely debilitating for me at that time and would like to show up off-and-on at various intervals in my journey. When I say it was debilitating I mean that...... I would wake up so nauseated I could not move. I had to wait a couple of hours for it to let up enough to even function.

At that time during the first big flare that resulted in my diagnosis, anything with any fat would make me nauseated, especially beef fat. I also had to be caffeine free, sugar free, and I couldn't eat any fiber or drink anything acidic. I had to take Dexilant (a PPI) for awhile, which I'm not recommending, but at the time I was willing to try anything. I was able to get off of that and switch to Zantac at night. The most profound help I found for nausea was acupuncture. Now I am able to take Magnesium and D3 but it took me awhile to get to that point because my stomach could tolerate very little.

As for the light headedness, I had that too but it seemed to correlate with my gut being upset, especially if I were having spasms or any cramps. I feel certain those two things were connected and once in awhile I still feel that way. Even now in remission if I have a day that something upsets my gut and it becomes overactive, where I have several bms with in a couple of hours, the lightheadedness and fatigue will hit and there's not much to do at that point but push the fluids and rest (at it's worse I might have to take a couple of Immodium and meclizine). Now I recover more quickly. But I feel a very clear correlation between lightheadness and my gut acting up. I now take it as my cue to check-in with myself and see what the gut issue might be--- stress? food? allergies? physically tired? You get the idea.

You are smart to eliminate soy next. Even today, if I accidently ingest soy, I am in for 4-5 hours of intense nausea, accompanied by dry heaving, and this will hit roughly 2-3 hours after I ingest it.

I know my reactions may not be the same as yours but if any of this info helps you then it is worth sharing.

take care,
Carol

Wow, Carol! Thanks so much for your reply! I also get the lightheaded-woozy-headed feeling associated with gut problems. But I consider myself very, very lucky that my symptoms are nowhere near as bad as yours. For me, the nausea is more just queaziness. I can still function, but feel like I'm operating at about 70% all the time. Sometimes an hour or so before a bad bathroom episode, I will get rapid heartbeat and dizziness. It's really weird how it's all connected.

I have been playing with my diet for a couple of weeks now. I think my problems were most likely caused because I was such a sugar junky! Totally addicted to sugar. I guess I am lucky that I am active and apparently have a high metabolism, since weight is not an issue. I always worried that I'd end up with diabetes from all the sugar, but never imagined these gut issues!

I got my Enterolab results back and it appears that the worst offenders for me are gluten and soy. But because I suspect sugar is such a culprit for me, I have been following the SCD (dairy-free version) diet, which eliminates all grains and carbs. I have really been feeling better the past couple of days, but right now I have woozy-head again, and I suspect I got "soyed" by one of my supplements. I'm still having a hard time finding supps that are truly soy free and I am pretty sure it's the soy that gives me the head symptoms.

Again, thanks so much for your input. I hope your remission continues!

Hi Louise- I agree soy can do that too and it is often in vitamins or supplements listed as tocopherols, which I have discovered can build up slowly until one day I found myself experiencing aching in my joints. Thankfully it was Polly here on our board that told me to check my supplements and she was 100% correct- it was in my omega 3 supplement. We always have to stay diligent, don’t we? For me- soy is evil.

Take care- Carol

Louise, if you have a Whole Foods near you, they sell Country Life Vitamin D3 which doesn’t contain soy, dairy, gluten. It doesn’t list egg as an ingredient it doesn’t contain but I haven’t had any issues and don’t see anything egg like in the ingredients. I imagine you can get it through Amazon too. I had to throw out Vit D and multivitamins because they had soy. I skip the multis now and just do Vit B, D and Mag.

Hope you turn the corner soon ~

I order my supplements online. The iHerb site lists all the ingredients of the supplements they sell and also lists what allergens they contain or are free of. That way you can be sure of what you are getting.
I've been getting Healthy Origins D3.
