things like gluten and casein are addictive.
there is one practitioner that says sugar addiction is just as hard to break as hard core drugs!

This means you can get addicted to sugar, the same way you get addicted to drugs.
Professor Bartlett said if you’re a sugar addict and try to quit, you can have withdrawals in the same way drug addicts can.
When you try to quit sugar, it causes a dopamine imbalance, the same as if you were to go cold turkey from drugs.
Thanks, Gabe. Your honesty and sharing of experiences gives me hope, although I have to admit that a life without crappy carbs and sugar sounds kinda depressing. I'm sure that's all part of the mental and emotional retraining. I just have to be patient with myself. (Hah!)
As soon as I am through with the gluten withdrawal symptoms I will cut back on sweets even more than I have. Can only handle one addiction withdrawal at a time.
Thanks for the articles. It certainly would be easier to eat healthy if more people around me were on board. I am surrounded by "bad foods" all day at the office and at every family gathering I attend. The only safe place is home. Hmmmmm, becoming a hermit DOES sound appealing at times. :)
One step and one day at a time.

Diagnosed November 2004, Used Asacol and Lialda, sometimes worked, sometimes made it worse. Entocort always works but hate it. Remission only lasts 3-6 months and then back on Entocort. Enterolab test July 2017, now gluten free. Time will tell!
I understand,
I work 3 days a week at a blue collar staffed workshop, the boys are frequently having all sorts of foods that I will never have again.. wheat based pastry on cold days etc. hot chips, various other types of take away foods
I just make sure I have my good serves of protein for breakfast, snacks, lunch.
If I am full I don't go looking for sugar or excess carbs.
for the social occasions that sweet things are being consumed, I take my gabe safe, low GI options with me.
there are good brownie, cake, muffin recipes in the dees kitchen area of the forum, that you can make batches, freeze them in portion size, to take with you when you are socialising.
we don't have to give up everything!! we just have to tweak and modify things to make them as least impacting to our bodies. part of the wellness journey is coming up with a MC management plan that we can stick with for the long term, not just at home, but at work, socialising etc.

Now I just need to live long enough to learn all I have to learn and change all the things I need to change. As I jokingly say to my husband, "I'm going to be the healthiest dead person you've ever seen!"

I am still battling diarrhea regularly after 2 1/2 years. I think mine is tied to seasonal allergies, as I live in GA where allergy season goes on and on and on. Trying to find a substitute for calcium products is difficult as the list on one of Gabe's notes was all items I absolutely cannot eat (kale, almonds, citrus, etc.) I so miss cheese in all forms as it was once part of my daily diet, especially Swiss cheese, my favorite. I have tried Daiya cheese products but those give me diarrhea also. I'm left feeling malnurished on most days as whatever I eat just runs thru me. It is very disheartening. I'm sure there are many others who share this feeling at times. Peanut butter and gluten free bread are my stand-by foods that stick with me but OMG I am so damn sick of eating them. I WANT CHEESE!!!!! Guess I have to just get over it and accept the fact that cheese will never again be a part of my life in any form. Have a funeral for cheese, along with all foods I love. Stop watching the Food Network. "Bland", "repetitive", or "boring" is the way I describe my diet. Just one tiny variation can throw my intestines into a tizzy and I pay for it for weeks and weeks. That's what I am doing now, just because I added a little over-cooked celery to some soup to flavor it - tasted wonderful going down - great comfort food. But my intestines are not happy with cooked celery, I guess, even though it was cooked until mushy. I get to the point I want to just give up on what to eat, what to cook, just shove bread and peanut butter in my mouth and forget about it. Will this ever get better? Will I ever be able to trust my intestines so I can leave my house?
why do you need calcium?? taking calcium depletes magnesium.
be cautious of dairy free cheese replacement products as they can be high in soy
yes - have a funeral and grieve the loss of cheese from your eating plan (for now) in time you may be able to reintoduce it back
until you can be at peace with the bland low amount of ingredients eating plan, not add new food items and give you body some time to heal you will struggle to get improvement.
