Sertraline and Other Qs

Post by Lisa_D »

Hello,

I've been reading about the sertraline connection, and I think this definitely played a part in my development of the condition. Does anyone know if there are any published studies on this? I brought this up to my GI doc yesterday and he immediately brushed off my concern. I'm on a high dose of sertraline, so I would at the very least like to understand the problem and be able to talk with a doctor about my options.

My GI talk is also already talking about trying humira to help with the MC. I tried Uceris for a month and the improvement has been minimal.

He's also not willing to talk about dietary changes (he keeps telling me that diet has nothing to do with it, even though it's the only thing that's helping me).

Sorry, I guess this is turning into a bit of a vent. I'm feeling a bit lost and each meeting with my GI doctor leaves me more and more frustrated. I'm considering getting a second opinion or at the very least scheduling an apt. with my PCP (who is great) to get her input.

Thanks for listening. It helps to know you've all been through this!!

the tough part of this is that 'MC' gets grouped with other IBD's and current protocols is that sertraline is recommended for people with IBD's.

with your one month of Uceris, did you make any eating plan or lifestyle changes??
did you take Vit D3 and magnesium??

Thanks, Gabes. I've gone dairy and gluten free. My symptoms have improved significantly, but my doctor is concerned that I'm still have diarrhea 3 times per day. He wants to give it 2 more weeks and then said we would talk about Humira, which seems extreme based on what I've read on this board.

Diet wise - Gluten and dairy free is not enough for many (?most at first)
are you following low fibre, low inflammation, bland, low sugar type eating plan (as per what we encourage in the stage one eating plan in the guidelines to recovery)
what sort of drinks are you having each day??

the reason for the Vit D3 and magnesium question, what we have seen over time is that medications have limited scope of success if the person is low in Vit D3 and magnesium. Are you taking these??

Hi Gabes,

Yes, I've been taking topical Magnesium and Vitamin D3 for over 6 months now. Yes, my diet is low fibre, low sugar, low inflammation and bland.

Thanks!

mmmm a medication change may help.... albeit it is more likely that there is still something in your day to day life that is triggering you. this may be food or drink related, or it could be environmental.

from the discussion in the other thread you are in the process of getting a second opinion so see what happens.

hope things improve for you soon
