DIY stool transplant

Post by jcommons »

Hey! I am new to this website and I have been interested in so many comments. Has anyone attempted a DIY stool transplant (FMT). I go to an Integrative DO for my chronic diarrhea/loose stools I have had for 4 years. After going through a round of SIBO treatment, being tested for LOW gut flora, and diagnosed with LC he strongly suggested a transplant. I am in the process of having a donor's stool tested...Has anyone or anyone you know had success with this?

welcome to our group

If you use the search function : big red letters at the top Search the Archives of this Discussion Board you will be able to look through previous discussions.

In my near 8 years as part of this forum, and 3 years part of other gut health groups on Facebook, I am yet to see someone get good LONG term benefit from FMT. best i have seen is someone getting up to 5 months of improvement.

in my opinion there are a couple of key things that impacts the success of FMT.
1. is dental health. no point fixing the gut from the bottom end, if you have ongoing issues at the top, ie dental issues that everytime you eat and drink you are feeding bad bacteria and viral germs into your gut.

2. FMT may assist putting good bacteria into the gut, but if you have leaky gut / damaged villi/excess inflammation toxins, then the body can not utiluse and expand this good bacteria for the long term. It would be like painting an unfinished plaster wall type thing. the paint will look good initially, but then peel off very quickly.

3. if you have acid issues and/or nutrient imbalances, less than ideal digestion process (issues with pacreas, spleen, liver) no amount of FMT is going to fix the gut. again it is like painting the unplastered wall. I mean this from a functional point of things, not mainstream

using "FMT" in the search words - here are some recent discussions that came up in the search results

hope this helps

Hi jcommons,

Welcome to the forum. I can't add much to what Gabes posted except to say that FMT seems to work very well for C. diff infections but I haven't ever seen anyone here post that it worked for MC either.

Interested in any conversations.... seriously considering taking action on the FMT, although my case seems to be much more than MC alone.
