Dairy sensitivity now.....
Hi all,
I hope everyone has been doing well! I haven't posted in awhile, but get on here periodically to read. I've been doing so well with my diet and my new part time job. I almost feel normal again. It has been wonderful!
But recently I've noticed my right pelvis has been aching and stiff. I fractured both sides of my pelvis in a car wreck. My left side has a metal plate, but my right side was allowed to heal on its on. Anyway, I kept thinking it's from my job, sitting more and exercising less. Until it dawned on me right after drinking a protein shake that I use with milk, I have developed a sensitivity to dairy now. It never bothered me in the past, only if I was in a flare. Even though I'm in bit of a depression about this new discovery, I just thought wow because of this forum I can try to treat myself!! Please don't ever stop writing down your stories and discoveries! I'll let you know how my avoidance of dairy pans out. Guess I'll start buying rice milk again....

Hi Martha-
If almonds are not an issue for you, I recommend almond milk. Rice milk seems watery to me. Almond milk has a consistency more like cows milk, and the sweetened is quite good.
I just recently discovered that I can eat cheese again (feta, Monterrey jack, mozzarella). It’s hard not to go nuts on it!!
Best of luck-
Carol

I agree. I like the Vanilla version of almond milk (it's sweetened).Carol wrote:If almonds are not an issue for you, I recommend almond milk. Rice milk seems watery to me. Almond milk has a consistency more like cows milk, and the sweetened is quite good.
Good for you. I was able to do that a few years ago. But then I began to have osteoarthritis symptoms, and when I did a stool test at EnteroLab, it showed that my immune system was producing antibodies against casein. So I had to cut it back out of my diet.Carol wrote:I just recently discovered that I can eat cheese again (feta, Monterrey jack, mozzarella). It’s hard not to go nuts on it!!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I've discovered that now my body has understood gluten is gone for good, it is now very sensitive to dairy....so no tiny cheats now or maybe forever who knows....
I had Cool Whip made with coconut milk but it contained some whey and boy by the third day of a blop helping on my ingredient safe berry pie (a pie I eat on occasion at work with no problems) the top of my thigh muscles ached so bad for almost 3 days waiting for that protein to get out of my system. I did no extra exercising during that time either so it wasn't a pulled muscle because by the third day late in the day the achiness left completely.
I am right there with you about the new sensitivity

Thanks Tex, for your comment above. I will stay alert to any changes over time. It wouldn’t necessarily surprise me if I have to eliminate cheese/ dairy again. I have been able to successfully add eggs back in and even at that I try to keep them to twice a week. But dairy was a bigger issue for me too.
Best wishes- Carol

Hi, Martha. I use almond milk as well. My 16 year-old nephew who was dog sitting for me now drinks it, too! He likes it better than cows milk. I haven't had dairy since my diagnosis in 2013. Milk went right through me at that time and I've been afraid to try any dairy since then.

Hi All- well I think my 3 month trial of cheese just came to a halt. Last night I had gas pains (I never have this) followed by an urgency to go that produced copious amounts of mucus. This morning- same thing. And I’m talking about a couple of tablespoons of mucus, not a tiny amount. So, looks like I’m headed for a liquid diet for a couple of days, bed rest and back to my dairy free life. It’s okay. I knew it could go like this although I hate to see it arrive. Apparently I have set off a flare- looks like my gut is in protection mode.
Best wishes

you may or may not have seen some semi recent discussions about 'Cross Reactors' Caesin and /or Lactose can be cross reactors for Gluten.
ie when you have caesin, there are some miniscule proteins that are similar to gluten proteins and the body reacts as if you are having gluten.

Hey guys,
I wanted to follow-up on this post. It took awhile but I discovered that my symptoms were caused from a glucosamine patch I was using instead of milk. It's very strange because the patch is suppose to help, but made it significantly worse. I'm wanting to email to company about it. My mom tried out the patches as well and found the patch made her arthritic back much worse too. I'm back to drinking milk in moderation and my hip pain is back to my usual, tolerable symptoms.
Sadly, almond milk flares my interstitial cystitis. Luckily milk does not. Rice milk is too watery for me as well...
Thank you guys for your responses!
