Testing soy

In the beginning mayo made me sick (soy)so I gave up all soy.
Last winter I had A terrible cough from a cold and all cough drops contained soy so it was do or die either way I can go through A bag in A week and they don't bother me I'm trying to figure A way to test soy and not be sick for 3 days if it goes south any thoughts anyone I have been able to eat baked beans pinto beans refried beans no problem

I can't have any soy............

Hi Terry-
Have you had the Enterolab testing to check your sensitivity to soy? That might be a good place to start to see if you show any reaction at the gut level.

Soy makes me terribly sick ( with extreme nausea). I can tolerate soy lecithin but soybean oil, soy flour, etc., make me very ill and I’ve been in remission for a couple of years. What I read is that there is something about the processing of soy lecithin that neutralizes the soy protein we react to. If you are going to test it you might start with something that contains soy lecithin and if that goes well, then try a small amount of a food that contains another form of soy, for 3 consecutive days. Be sure to keep the rest of your diet the same so there’s no question if you have a reaction that it is to the soy.
If those three days go well then you can always test another form of soy in the same way.

Be aware too that there are additives to food that are soy based (like alpha-tocopherols) that may not cause a noticeable reaction initially but can have a cumulative effect. For example, I was taking a liquid Omega3 supplement. After a month I began to notice my joints aching and it continued to get worse and more widespread until Polly cautioned me to check for tocopherols. Sure enough I found them and once I stopped taking the supplement my pain began to subside.

So soy is a tricky one. It comes in different forms. But it’s well worth the time to sort out how problematic it is for you.
