Rashes

Post by Lisa_D »

Hello,

Lately I've been getting a couple of rashes. My most recent rash is that the skin on my fingers and palms of my hands is peeling. Could this be a sign of a vitamin deficiency? Or a food intolerance?

Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Kind Regards,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

That's probably due to something that regularly contacts your hands. Suspects may include your dish detergent, hand lotion, nickle, etc. Do you do any gardening? The leaves and stems of just about any growing plant that contacts my skin causes a rash.

Hope you can track it down.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi, Lisa I get a rash on my chest when I am in the sun, but that's it. Have you eliminated gluten from your diet? Prior to my diagnosis my hands were cracked & bleeding. Once I eliminated gluten my hands healed.

I have Amyopathic Dermatomyositis, which causes multiple characteristic pink/red/violet rashes on the knuckles, chest, back, outer thighs, face, eyes, etc. One disease manifestation is called Mechanic's Hands, because they peel at the edges of the fingers and on the palms. This is typically associated with the Jo-1 antibody and can be a warning sign for Interstitial Lung Disease or Antisynthetase syndrome.

Here's some photos of mechanic's hands:

Two thirds of people with myositis report a gastrointestinal condition, and many have LC, which is basically the skin rash manifesting in the lining of the colon. I developed DM 5 years before I developed LC.

A rash on the chest that worsens in the sun is the most classical symptom of DM, the V-sign.
