JUST PUT ON UCERIS - QUESTIONS
Hello,
My gastro just put me on Uceris after I told him the Budenoside that another doc had prescribed did not work. I am confused - is Budenoside the same as Uceris? I am on 9m - one pill in the morning. I was fine the first two days, the third day I had 6 bowel movements during the day. I usually have 2 or 3 in the morning only - I have pain, nausea - the works. I have been told that in order to see if it truly works, you need to stay on it for at least 2 weeks or so. But if my symptoms are getting worse, do I continue? Several months ago I had bouts of incontinence - not making it to the bathroom, but lately, I have been able to hold it until I get to the toilet! As soon as I started the drugs, it's back to the incontinence! I feel like I am taking a step backwards.
I am still waiting to get an endoscopy - I have been eating so bland and losing weight. I just wanted to know if anyone had similar symptoms on these medications?

Ugg, I'm sorry you are going through this. My understanding is budesonide is essentially the same but the mechanism is different. I think the Uceris gets to a certain part of the gut due to coating on the tablet before it is absorbed by the body. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
It sounds like diet has been working! Yea! Getting to the bathroom is huge.
My experience with budesonide was solid stool (norman) in 3 days and constipation in 2 weeks.
Entocort and Uceris don't work for everyone. I found budesonide to be a very strong drug and I had side effects. I kept thinking it would get better as I stepped down but the side effects never lessened. I can't go on it again as the side effects were too bad.
Continue to eat bland. Eat all day. Force yourself to eat even if not hungry.
I'm not sure what to tell you but good luck with your decision. It sounds like the diet has definitely been helping.
Other drugs that you might try that help a lot of MCers would be cholestyamine (give that a month) and the John Hopkins pepto bismol protocol (give that 8 weeks).

Going from no nightly incontinence back to incontinence is rough. The docs don't get the severity of our disease.
Our disease is one where you definitely don't want to go backwards.
Also, if it helps, budesonide and uceris (steroids) don't "heal" us. They help with the symptoms (for those the drugs work on) while we figure out the diet. Because they are steroids they actually slow down healing compared to using diet alone. We have had some discussions on this on the forum.
Keep us posted, hang in there, MC healing takes awhile (it took me 2 years).

Your GI doc is lost and confused. If you react to budesonide, you will react to Uceris. It's the same medication in a slightly different form. Yes a few people have similar symptoms when taking budesonide, so they stop taking it.BarbieAnn wrote:My gastro just put me on Uceris after I told him the Budenoside that another doc had prescribed did not work.
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
co-workerk comments
Hello!
Can someone give me some advice on how to deal with insensitive co-workers?!?
A co-worker came up to me today and said, "Oh my God, you have lost so much weight! And you really can't afford to - you're so skinny as it is. Are you going to keep losing weight from that colitis you have? Oh my God! What are you gonna do?"
As tired as i've been feeling, I wanted to knock her out! It does not make me feel any better hearing these types of comments. Yes I know I've lost weight - I try to eat small meals all day long but to hear this, (and the way she said it as well) it just makes me so depressed. I'm a very honest person and I don't hide many things - especially in this case because they can see something is going on with me. I've been taking days off from work which I never do and my appearance with the weight loss. I do have a few people who have been wonderful and helpful to me, but of course these other people always stand out in one's mind.
Just wanted to vent and hear if anyone goes through similar experiences at their job.

BarbieAnn,
I am sorry you are going through this. The work place can be tough. I had to toughen up my self, i.e. have tougher feelings and try not to let things get to me.
I work on standing tall and shoulders back. That position exudes confidence.
For some work events I fixed myself up a bit more to give myself confidence. Example--my company had a yearly weekend Christmas party in Cleveland every year. One night was fancy dress ball. One night was a themed costume event. Since I saw my bosses a couple of times a year I knew I had to fake that I felt good (since they all knew I was sick with MC). I was really concerned with staying awake for the events but I put an extra effort into my homemade costumes and extra effort into my recycled goodwill evening gowns.
