Newly Published Research Linking MC & genetic predisposi

Post by jimjwatson »

The article is talking about genes that impact the tight junctions in the lining of the small intestines. Looks like some people are genetically predisposed to tight junction issues. Those people tend to develop MC if those genes get switched on.

"Conclusions:

Decreased expression of PTEN and MAGI1 in the colonic mucosa might contribute to the pathogenesis of MC
and its sub-phenotypes. Furthermore, our study indicates that genetic variants of TJ components are predisposing factors in
the etiology of MC. Finally, F11R, MAGI1, and PTEN are new candidate genes that exhibit an association with MC."

Interestingly, there is also a drug about to start Phase 3 trials called Lorazotide. This drug has been show to help people with gut permeability issues by tightening the junctions between the villi. Drug is scheduled to be available to the public ~late 2020 if all goes well. This drug would help people with these genes form tighter junctions and possible help their MC.

I'll be interested in if they come up with more concrete information as my PTEN gene is looking way good for this to have been my gateway to LC/MC.

Thanks for sharing!

Jim, thanks for posting. I think many of us with MC feel like the celiac community diminishes our disease because we are not celiac. We have issues that are as bad, if not worse, because of, oftentimes, multiple triggers. I look forward to your input. Deb
