Hello again -
I had another question.
Does anyone here with MC have soft stools as opposed to watery diarrhea? I do get the WD, especially when stressed, but most of my stools are in the morning, large volume, but really very soft, semi-formed stools which my doc thinks is not an indicator of MC because it is not diarrhea. He knows I have MC but is perplexed because when I tell him I go 2 or 3 times in the morning - he thinks that's nothing. He does not realize the VOLUME that's involved here!
I was just wondering if this is just another form of bowel movement that's experienced with MC. Because according to him, I don't fit the norm.

The soft stools mean that you are healing. WD is not healing. Soft stools mean you are moving forward.
Don't worry about volume. We have to eat a lot not to lose too much weight.
Every time you have soft stools (soft serve) be happy it is not WD and your body is working on healing.
Before you know it you will have just soft stools (not WD)

Barbie,
Soft stools, like soft serve ice cream is a good thing. It means your gut is healing. Embrace it. When you have all soft stools and no WD your gut is healing more. After the soft stools your body will move to firmer stools.
Again, don't worry about volume. We need to eat a lot of calories not to lose weight.

barbieAnn,
High volume is the norm with MC. It's called secretory diarrhea in medical terms because the colon infuses water and electrolytes into the fecal stream instead of taking them out. Your GI doc sounds normal, also. They just don't get it. They believe the incorrect description of MC that they read in the medical journals, when they should be listening to the patient.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi BarbieAnn- been there, like Tex and Brandy. It is part of the healing process. In my case I also think I had motility issues that would contribute to the volume as well. Like my gut would start moving and had no rhythm and go bonkers. The more I heal the less I encounter that. But I agree that what you are experiencing is part of the healing process.
