This article gives an explanation of fiber’s relation to gut inflammation. It is in the New York Times so don’t know if it is accessible to all, but it was interesting.
Just google: Fiber Is Good for You. Now Scientists May Know Why.
(Couldn't get it to be a link because I have the app and it just kept opening in the app.)

Fiber Is Good for You. Now Scientists May Know Why.
Unfortunately, the article contains no references to medical articles. It sounds like more of the same old song and dance to try to convince everyone to keep the parasites in their gut well fed. I like the part where the article points out that on a low-fiber diet, gut bacteria populations "crash".
I can't help but wonder if the author might be a gut bacterium.

I'd like to see the research that supposedly proves that claim. After a few days on the low-fiber diet, mouse intestines developed chronic inflammation

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
