Hi All, was wondering if anyone knew how the antibodies affect our healing? I was diagnosed with CC this past August. Had Entero Lab work. Gluten was 86 units. All others were 13 or below. I have eliminated gluten and have been gluten free since August. I'm still having symptoms...not as bad but I still get cramping and D.
I am not on any drugs...trying to heal w/o using diet, supplements, and Pepto or Imodium. Was on Prednisone for years due to autoimmune hepatitis and do not want to go back on steroids if I can help it. Read some things about Budesonide and didn't like how symptoms returned then it's a yoyo dance with the drug. Did the Pepto treatment back in September & October and it helped, but my symptoms returned about 2 weeks off of it. Trying the Pepto again (had to get through the holidays) but only twice a day...it is helping but my cramps are still there. Hair is thinning too. :( Ugh. I am just having a hard time accepting I have CC...
TO the question: I heard antibodies can last in the body for awhile. Does that mean I still might experience symptoms (cramping and D) until the antibodies are gone...even though I'm not consuming gluten?
Also, if anyone has been on Budesonide and has had success getting off of it without symptoms reappearing I would love to know!
Thank you everyone for all your wisdom, time, and energy in helping each other with our issues. My 2018 goal is to reach remission!
Can antibodies cause symptoms when not eating trigger foods?

Hi DD,
If I interpreted your post correctly, you are probably reacting to all your other food sensitivities besides gluten. Any test result above 9 is positive. If you are eating any of those foods with a test result greater than 9, your immune system is producing antibodies against them, and they are causing your symptoms.
To maintain remission after ending a budesonide treatment you have to taper the dose much longer than your doctor suggested. You have to spend a week or two (or more) at each step, while you slowly reduce the dose not just to one capsule per day, but to one capsule every other day, then one every third day, every fourth day, etc. But your diet must be "clean" (free of food sensitivities) before that will work.
I hope this is helpful.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Agree with Tex, removing only gluten is not enough with results at 13.
All major triggers have to be elminiated for the inflammation levels to go down and for the gut to be able to heal.

Gluten antibodies can last up to 6 months, but symptoms like cramping and D will continue if you are consuming other trigger foods like Dairy, Fibre, excess sugar etcI heard antibodies can last in the body for awhile. Does that mean I still might experience symptoms (cramping and D) until the antibodies are gone...even though I'm not consuming gluten?
yes there are many that have achieved this, if you go to the member success stories area of the forum and read the posts you will see what others have done, how long it took etcAlso, if anyone has been on Budesonide and has had success getting off of it without symptoms reappearing I would love to know!

I'm one. Our forum members have a very high percentage of successfully getting off of budesonide. When I got off 3 other women were tapering off at the same time and we all were successful. Also, if anyone has been on Budesonide and has had success getting off of it without symptoms reappearing I would love to know!
Odds are much higher for our forum members than the general public because we push GF, DF; we encourage longer time on budesonide than the 3 month typically prescribed by American docs and we encourage anti histamine use for 1-2 weeks after last budesonide.
That said--we have a tiny percent of forum members that are GF and DF and unable to get off of budesonide. Most of them are on very low maintenance doses.
I'm one who was on Budesonide for approximately a year. When I tapered off, I did it very slowly...............3 mg every couple of days for about 3-4 weeks and then every three days for awhile and then every 4 days or so until I finally quit taking it and have done very well without it!
