Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience and can offer an explanation for it. I've noticed over the past few years that I tend to get really bad headaches before having a larger bowel movement. I notice this happens mostly at work when I have to hold it because it's not a convenient time to use the restroom. The longer I hold in a BM the worse my headache gets. Sometimes I don't even feel like I have to go at all, and I'll get a headache that gets worse and worse until suddenly I REALLY have to use the bathroom. After the BM the headache is almost completely resolved. I've asked my GI about this in the past but he didn't have an explanation.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah-
I can’t say I’ve experienced headaches per se but i have had times when I’ve felt light-headed prior to bms. It wasn’t unusual for me to feel lighted headed if my gut was really active that day. I don’t have a good explanation as to the cause. I just chalked it up to the brain- gut connection and maybe the struggle from my gut was having an impact on me neurologically, because it’s all connected. I know others here have described feeling nauseated prior to bms. It’s been a definite observable pattern between the two (light headedness and large bms) and it has improved with time.
I hope this helps-
