Mental and Emotional Aspects of Healing

Post by Gabes-Apg »

I frequently mention this topic.....
yesterday I watched the documentary 'Heal' for anyone on a wellness journey I recommend watching this. (you can rent it from iTunes for $6.00) http://healdocumentary.com/about.html

one part of the doco I was interested in and worthy of sharing here, was presented by Kelly Turner.
Kelly Turner, PhD is the New York Times bestselling author of Radical Remission: Surviving Cancer Against All Odds, now translated into 20 languages, which summarizes her research into the radical remission of cancer – when someone heals from cancer without Western medicine or after Western medicine has failed.

Over the past decade, she has conducted research in 10 different countries and analyzed over 1,500 cases of radical remission. She is a frequent guest on The Dr. Oz Show and holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Most recently, Kelly has adapted her bestselling book into a fictional, feature-length screenplay entitled OPEN-ENDED TICKET. Kelly is also working on a 9-part docuseries that will cover each of the 9 healing factors from her research, and is the founder of the Radical Remission Project,
Long story short she spent years reviewing cancer cases where people went into 'radical remission' (over 1500 people) there were over 75 different aspects that people did - but there were 9 key ones that most if not ALL the people did;
- radically changing diet
- taking control of health
- follow your intiution
- herbs/supplements
- releasing suppressed emotions
- increasing positive emotions
- embracing social support
- deepening spiritual connection
- have a strong reason for living

7 of the 9 are about the mental/emotional aspects of healing.

The other key message of the documentary that the functional practitioners agree on - current health system is geared towards 'Acute care' if you are acutely ill then hospital is the best place. Functional medicine can not help a stab wound or burst appendix etc. The health system is not geared up for chronic illnesses, where time is needed to confirm root cause and treat root cause.

I did this post that for the people that are focussing on Diet, Supps, Medications and not healing or progressing as well as they would like, stop breathe and look at the mental and emotional aspects of your healing journey...

Excellent advice. IMO those nine items are all vital to an optimal recovery plan/program. Research shows that they can also help when acute (medical) care is necessary. Some of the emotional concepts can make the difference between surviving major surgery or some other life-threatening challenge, and not surviving. Been there, done that.

I need to watch that. I just finished my last infusion for breast cancer in December. Treatment started Oct 2016. It was a long haul and of course my CC kicked up in August. I am better but not back to normal (whatever that is!). Question - I am pretty good about most things in my diet but am wondering how much sugar comes into play.....I love candy☺️ And when I don’t feel good sucking on gluten free hard licorice makes me happy. And I love good chocolate!! I keep reading about getting rid of all sugar and it is one of my few 🤪 vices and I hate to give it up. Advise please.
Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end.

Jeane,

Too much sugar can cause leaky gut, which is the root cause of food sensitivities. I used to be a sugarholic, and I think that sugar was a big factor in the development of my MC.

Great post, Gabes!

It is so important to address all of those factors. I think one of the most important is to follow your intuition, listen to your body. It WILL tell us what is needed (even though we may not want to hear it - LOL)
