Thin stool
Hi everyone and happy new year!
I thought I read about this on here before but can’t find it.
When I had my last colonoscopy the colon looks normal so I’m confused of why I would have such thin stool all the time? Will that ever go away, and is it normal or something to worry about?
Thanks
Lou Ann

Hi Lou Ann,
I "think" it's fairly common, at least I had a lot of that when I was recovering. Ribbon stools sometimes show up as we begin to heal. It's hard to predict how long it might last, but eventually it will be replaced by a more normal form. It's nothing to worry about, at any rate.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Ribbon stools are simply due to the shape of the colon/anus as stool is expelled. It can be caused by pressure while going and hemorrhoids. I read up on this as I have also had thin stools. I know that I have had and probably still have hemorrhoids. They don't bother me much but I do use an ointment when the do. My stools are sometimes still thin but I have fewer of those now.
