Hi Sheryl,

Yes, adding foods back into the diet too soon can be very risky. As you say, you may have added too many, or you may have added them too soon. It's best to test portions of a new food for 3 days to check for any reactions before adding it into your diet. And of course, only test one new food at a time so that there is no doubt about which food might be causing problems.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi BarbieAnn- it was close to 2 years for me to heal. I had another colonoscopy about that time and the biopsies were ‘normal’ and I considered that true remission. It also reinforced how critical the diet changes are. In spite of that I still had some motility issues, was irregular, and was still dealing with occasional nausea. Now, 5 years after diagnosis I no longer have the motility issues and irregularity. I rarely have nausea. But those improvements just came on in this past year. I’m in my late 50’s so you may heal more quickly but the reality is that this is a slow process.

Best wishes- Carol
