Sciatica or Lactic Acid (Lactate)
Hi,
Since I was diagnosed with CC back in 2010, I have had awful pains in the lower back, the buttocks and down the back of my legs. I have written some posts about this earlier. Climbing stairs, standing or walking for long time is painful, and gives me the feeling of being pulled down to the floor/ground.
In November 2015 I had a lower back surgery, due to sciatic nerve inflammation, spinal stenosis and spine disc inflation, and I thought this would solve the pains. However, the pains have persisted, but they are different; it feels like a kind of tiredness and soreness, not the shooting pains down my legs like I used to have prior to surgery .
At my last visit to my GP, he asked me if I had problems with lactic acid in my legs, and I described how I felt right now. He suspected that my pains are not due to a sciatic problem, but that lactic acid is involved.
He suggested that I start making my own electrolyte sports drink (potassium, sea salt and squeezed orange juice in a certain ratio), and to take 10 mg magnesium per kilo body weight. I have done this for 3 weeks now, and the pains rarely show up.
So, for those of you who experience lower back pains, and pains in the buttocks and legs that have no explanation as to the spine... Maybe it is not sciatica, but "only" lactic acid building up for some reason.

Hi Lilja,
Intersting post, thank you for this information.
I have something maybe a bit similar. Last summer I had an severe inflammation in an intervertebral in my low back, most likely caused by eating a piece of cheese, accompanied by severe d and other problems. The pain spread to my left leg and ankle and it took months to disappear, vey slowly, but still not complete.
The pain in my ankle and leg returns, severe or light, specially in the night, after eating something 'wrong', but sometimes it returns when I'm rather sure I didn't eat anything wrong. Maybe the electrolyte drink can help me to. I would appreciate it very much if you can give me the precise recipe.

Sonja,
4 oz fresh orange juice
1/4 tsp sea salt/Himalayan salt
1/4 tsp cream of tartar*
Take it 1 hour away from food. I usually drink this twice a day.

Hi Lilja,
I also have more or less ache in the lower back and hips every day.
When I do some physical activity out of the ordinary, no matter how small, I get lactic acid followed by exercise pain 1-3 days afterwards.
This is depressing as I used to love to work out.
Do you still use:
- 4 oz fresh orange juice
- 1/4 tsp sea salt/Himalayan salt
- 1/4 tsp cream of tartar*
- 10 mg magnesium per kilo (elemental?)
