Got sick this morning!

Post by tasmtairy »

Hi,
I've been D free since the beginning of the month. I've been taking Mesalamine (lialda) 1.2 gr. 2x a day. Yesterday I decided to take it only once. I'm so disappointed! So I guess the Mesalamine is doing something. I'm gf, df, soy and egg free. After being on here, started taking Mag. Dr's Best and D3.

I am getting Budesonide, but will not take it since the mesalamine is working, I will use it if and when I have a severe flare, I haven't heard very many success stories of coming off the steroid, without the symptoms returning. Diet is the key for me and I guess I'm not healed, nor in remission like I thought I was

I see you joined in late November. If that's when you started the treatment, that's only about 2 months. It usually takes about 6 months or more of healing to prevent a relapse when weaning off meds. The reason why the intestines heal so slowly is because the immune system continues to produce antibodies for a while, and these continue to produce (progressively less) inflammation.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you for replying Tex. That's what I figured. I will keep on doing what I'm doing. I think my weight has stabilized which is good.

i'm so sorry you're going through this. i took mesalamine and cholestrymine together for one month and the minute i quit taking the meds, my symptoms returned. I'm now on budesonide and things have gotten progressively better since I began taking it one month ago. I understand now that it will take more time than what i originally thought. it can be frustrating but i guess our bodies just need us to be patient. hang in there!
