Bloody water stool quick info requested

Post by Alohagirl »

Aloha all - I could use some guidance. I tried searching this topic and didn't find one on someone needing quick guidance.

I have had lymphocyctic MC for 2.5 yrs & had SIBO 2.5 years ago (don't know if still do). I have been very stable for over a year on diet alone. I have always been more on the constipation than D side. I took Xifaxin 2.5 years ago and no other med. I believe this flare is from a rice noodle (must have more than rice & water in it) - I had it once a week ago & woke up in the middle of the night dizzy & had brief D and had been ok since.

I threw out those noodles but by mistake apparently had one extra unlabeled portion & had it again last night. Within an hour I was up light headed and had to bend over close to the floor to not faint. Had D multiple times and went to bed for the night at 730. When I got up during the night I felt slight pressure in my gut and no further BMs.

I woke up and within 1.5 hours had 3 water BMs of clotting blood (small amount) - sorry about the graphic details. Just had another one 5 hours later. I have never had bright red (not black or tarry) blood like this before.

I went to the PCP this AM. He is doing blood work & will do a stool sample to rule out bacterial infection (If I can have a normal stool). Trying to decide about colonoscopy which was last 6-15. In other words, he does not seem to know what to do.

Anything else I should be doing? I went ahead and had my normal breakfast of rice, ground turkey, cereal & banana 5 hours ago and no D other than brief bloody dripping recently.

Should I eat just broth and rice & expect that this will heal quickly (the bleeding part)? He could not tell me what to watch for or do other than ease back into eating.

Any input is much appreciated!

MC does not cause bloody stools. Watery diarrhea irritates/inflames hemorrhoids. Either you have hemorrhoids or a pathogenic infection of some kind. If it were an infection (such as e. coli or salmonella, you should feel fairly sick. If you feel OK otherwise, you probably have bleeding hemorrhoids. I'm amazed your PCP didn't suspect 'roids.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Aloha - thanks for the fast reply. I do not feel sick and am not feverish. Hemorrhoids are probably it then - never had them before. Thanks so much for your excellent guidance!
