Cough Recommendations

Post by Marcia K »

Hello. I have the flu. While I am feeling much better the cough is hanging on and it's my understanding that it can hang around for weeks. Yay! I have been taking two teaspoons of honey at bedtime but that doesn't seem to be helping very much. I'd appreciate any tried and true cough suppressants that have worked for you. Thanks!

Marcia,

I'm just getting rid of the cough after over a month, so I sympathize 100%. It was the last flu symptom to stubbornly hang on. My recommendation for dealing with it is a cough drop called "Fisherman's Friend" - it works like a charm and does not bother my intestines. I get it at Walgreen's, but I'm sure you can buy it online.

Hope your cough clears up soon!!!

Love,
Kari

Thanks, Kari! I believe my local grocery store sells Fisherman's Friend. I'll send my husband for some! I'm always afraid to try anything new for fear of the dreaded D! Good to hear your cough is finally going away. It's been a long winter for sure.

I've noticed that if I am at home I will run a humidifier with KAZ in it....it's been dry feeling lately so I suspect that is one contributing factor to getting the cold I am not just getting over.

Moist air helps me to cough less.....

That makes sense, Erica. I got rid of the cool mist humidifier that I had for my son. I should get another one.

10 mls of dark honey at bedtime. It can be in a drink too with lemon and a slice of root ginger. I take Benadryl at night. But my guy still had the cough after FOUR weeks. This flu virus leaves inflammation behind apparantly. It has now suddenly disappeared!

Thanks, Green. My stomach is sore today from coughing...four weeks is a long time. Ack! I keep telling myself that this too shall pass. I'll keep trying until I find something that works.
