CBD oil is what the Dr was talking about specifically and it is made from hemp and legal in all 50 states as it's not supposed to have any THC in it. They sell the stuff at farmers markets here!! My son works at a pet place that sells all grain free food/specialty protein foods for dogs/cats and he tells me that they sell alot of CBD oil specifically for dogs and have alot of positive feed back on it (arthritic issues, anxiety issues, etc.).

Interesting stuff, did a little research on the internet. Like it's been mentioned here, it's supposed to be anti inflammatory...

anti-inflammatory effects

Post by grhandlan@comcast.net »

Question about CBD anti-inflammatory effects, if we are supposed to stay away from this class of drug, will CBD cause problems for MC?

I have just started taking CBD oil so I will let you know in a few days or so how it's going. I wanted to try it because a friend of mine takes it and it helps her sleep. Since I was diagnosed with MC and took Budesonide for a little over a year, I've had a hard time sleeping and I was depending on Benadryl to help me sleep, but I can't take that forever either.

The one thing I have noticed is that the last two nights that I have taken it, I have slept for a pretty long period of time (for me anyway - about 4-5 hours) and when I did wake up, I did go back to sleep pretty quickly. When I got up in the morning, I have felt more rested so I'm guessing I was having a Benadryl/Melatonin hang over before.

All CBD oil is not created equally. I have tried 2 or 3 different kinds until I found one I trusted. A friend of mine from my hometown has a business up near Denver and I trust the work he is doing. Also, some of them put flavors in them and this one doesn't. It's pure.

Anyway, that's my two cents for now. I'll keep you posted.

That's interesting Jari,...since my DNA testing says I probably should stay away from cannabis of any kind, I suspect I don't react well to it. Never have tried it in my life so I can't be positive one way or the other how my body would react.

Erica,

I still need to do my DNA testing.........it's been sitting here for a few months........I never remember it until I've either eaten or had something to drink........so, we'll see............I've never smoked pot and don't intend to...........this doesn't have THC in it.............

Hi Jari,
I don't think I had to fast or anything for the DNA testing....it was a spit in a container type of thing and send it back.

Of course no THC...I wouldn't think that is doable in your teaching environment....but just in general any cannabis was an Avoid on my list from 23andMe.

People in other MC and IBD groups are experiencing improvement with medical marijuana. CBD oil is good for pain and sleep, but you will want to use marijuana, not just CBD, as the THC is what helps regulate the gut. Start low and add more as you see how you react.

I have to disagree with you about adding the THC to the CBD oil. It has many advantages without the THC. I'm not adding the THC, and I am seeing improved sleep so far.

Jari and everyone,
I just came across this posting on Medical Marijuana and Mast Cells, and thought you might find it interesting. There are definitely benefits from CBD only products, but in states where marijuana is illegal, I think they start with industrial hemp. So I don't know whether its possible to order organic or at least pesticide free CBD oil on the internet, or buy it in one of those states. There are many local/regional producers in "green" states who use local organically grown marijuana in their preparations.

I’ve intermittently used CBD/THC combo tinctures/salves--mostly topically--after it was recently legalized recreationally here. Its been suggested that ingesting it and letting it coat my esophagus on its way down, might really help with chronic esophageal issues, although I think letting it dissolve sublingually is what’s generally recommended. I’ve tried it orally a few times, but didn’t particularly care for the taste. So although its not terrible, I chased it with coconut milk or water, and don’t know if that diluted or skewed the effects. I plan to use it “as recommended” soon. It can make you sleepy, so bedtime is a good time to try it. As you mentioned Kari, its best to talk to someone knowledgable about strains, since some can increase anxiety, insomnia, etc. CBD’s are relaxing, so a low THC/high CBD is what’s generally recommended for relaxation, sleep and pain.

It seemed somewhat effective for joint/muscle pain, eczema relief and insomnia, but there are generally too many other variables involved for me to draw any definitive conclusions. I wasn’t previously aware of its potential effects on mast cells though. I now wonder whether it might have helped tame my gut issues so quickly—relatively speaking. (Friday marks just 1 year since I began a low histamine/EnteroLab based diet and I think I'm in my 4th month of remission).

Pot has been medically legal in Oregon for almost 20 years and there are many here who are quite knowledgeable about various strains and their effects, etc. The preference for High CBD/Low THC combos for relaxation and pain, seems universal among those I’ve spoken with. BTW—you can easily make your own salve—(where its legal) with bulk marijuana, organic coconut oil and a crockpot. There are now strict testing requirements to ensure that every batch is free of pesticide, mold, etc., so it can be used topically or ingested. I’ll update you if I learn anything new.

MCAS & Medical Marijuana: How Cannabis Halts Mast Cell Degranulation & Eases Our Suffering
“One of my most popular posts is titled “MCAS & Medical Marijuana: Can Cannabis Help Us?” so I wanted to do a follow up post on the topic since there are so many people out there searching for answers about using MMJ for their mast cell disease.
In that article I shared research showing that we have cannabinoid receptors on our mast cells and that cannabinoids can suppress mast cell degranulation:
Cannabinoids are broadly immunosuppressive, and anti-inflammatory properties have been reported for certain marijuana constituents and endogenously produced cannabinoids. The CB2 cannabinoid receptor is an established constituent of immune system cells, and we have recently established that the CB1 cannabinoid receptor is expressed in mast cells.
In his book, Never Bet Against Occam, Dr. Afrin discusses his experience with patients who use marijuana to help with their mast cell disease symptoms:
The mast cell surface features (inhibitory) cannabinoid receptors, making me wonder whether at least some of the chronically ill patients out there who claim that the only thing that makes them feel better is marijuana might be unrecognized MCAS patients in whom THC’s binding with the cannabinoid receptors on their dysfunctional mast cells leads to a quieting of the activity of those cells and thus a lessening of symptoms.
An indepth research article entitled “Cannabinomimetic Control of Mast Cell Mediator Release: New Perspective in Chronic Inflammation” published in the Journal of Neuroendocrinology provides detailed evidence backing up the fact that medical marijuana can suppress mast cell degranulation and help alleviate pain and inflammation in patients.
Yasmine over at Healing Histamine wrote an article about it last year where she touts the benefits of CBD oil but warns about the potential allergenicity to the pollen in marijuana:
There’s always a downside though and that’s the allergenicity of marijuana. It’s a pollinating plant so please exercise caution. She also makes sure to note that she is not interested in the THC constituents of marijuana because she doesn’t want the “high” it gives her:
Interestingly, the top comment on her article is from a professional researcher and developer in the medical marijuana industry, Ellen, who has this to say about it:
Total disclosure: I work in the cannabis industry in a science/research capacity in Denver. I help develop high CBD strains for patients with seizures and cancer. So I know this plant really well from both a scientific POV and from personal experience.
CBD is great. Don’t get me wrong. But CBD by itself does not work long term UNLESS there is anywhere from 1 to 3% THC in the mix. THC is necessary to push CBD into the bloodstream. I could get really technical on how that works but that’s not the point. The point is NOT to demonize THC. There’s been enough of that for too many decades. You’re not going “crazy” or getting violent. You’re relaxed. Period…………………………So, I’m ALL for CBD but don’t toss the THC out, thinking that it’s “bad”. We have to begin to have rational discussions on cannabis, away from the “fear” of “getting high.”
For adults, there is nothing wrong with choosing a strain that has both CBD and THC. We can benefit from both of them………………………”

I was just diagnosed with MC in November 2017. I already used marajuana for nerve pain (2 herniated discs), anxiety, nightmares/night terrors, insomnia, migraines, etc. I find that it helps with the pain from MC as well as the extra anxiety (being sick all the time, missing work, effect on quality of life, etc.). It also helps me get to sleep.

A close friend of mine has celiac disease and her husband has crohns. They both use it to manage symptoms as well. Without it, the friend with crohns is so sick he can't function. He is taking other medications amd monitored by a doctor.

I don't think it hurts to try it to see if it will help symptoms. It also depends on how risky it is for you. I'm in the USA, in one of the first states to legalize recreational marajuana. As long as my job doesnt decide to drug test me, I won't face any repercussions for using it.
