Once again, thank you to everyone for your kind wishes and advice.

Today I had a consult with the surgeon and have decided on a mastectomy and sentinel node biopsy. Next Wednesday!!! (No long wait times in Canada!) And I needn’t have worried about hospital food......it will be DAY surgery! So home with a dressing and drain, a binder of instructions/care/exercises, free home visits as needed, and absorbable sutures. I will take Tylenol 3s as suggested since they shouldn’t affect my LC.

Mainly I’m trying to relax and breathe, and be mindful and grateful. I’ll keep exercising and doing yoga until the day before. I’ve got my post op foods ready. Then it will be one day at a time to recover.

Thank you again, all. I’ll come back and let you know how I’m doing. Be well.

Hazel,
That’s great news! It’s amazing what they’re now able to do on an out patient basis! One giant step at a time and you’ll soon be on the road to recovery.

Here are amazon links to 2 ”radiation” creams, the first is plain calendula cream recommended by my naturopath, and the 2nd, a calendula based cream recommended by my radiation oncologist. At the facility they had big bowls of free samples at the check-out desk. The blended cream is much nicer—even as a regular moisturizer—but also way spendier, so the free samples were nice supplements. I used lots and lots of each—for a month before, and months afterwards. (My radiation was delayed a few months because of a post-surgical breast hematoma and a large armpit seroma from the lymph node removal. I was told these were relatively rare complications, however it doesn’t hurt to be aware of these possibilities).

There are actually 2 identical products: “MyGirls” and “MyGuys” and (as one might expect) MyGirls costs more, so the link below is for the “male” product. If you compare the listings and feedbacks, you’ll see they’re the same.

Sending hugs and positive thoughts. Hope its all passes smoothly and swiftly.

PS—Is Tylenol 3 the kind mixed with hydrocodone? If so, be careful! Of course everyone reacts differently, but I tried one the first night. I got up to pee, and next thing I knew I was on the floor with my husband peering over me and an unbelievably sore butt and back. I was lucky not to have broken my hip or cracked my spine. Diverted my attention from the surgical pain though.

I don't know what time your surgery is scheduled but I am praying it goes well and you will have a speedy recovery.

Hi Hazel,
Thinking about you and hoping things have started to look up. The first weeks after surgery are generally the worst, so hopefully you’ve been growing stronger and more comfortable as the days pass. Fill us in when you’re ready.

With warmest wishes,
Teri
