Mold Test for our Home - Issues with Remission

Post by JohnnyG »

I have been having issues with my LC and having trouble getting to remission. I have eliminated most everything from my diet for months now. Still having D daily and watery D at times. So, I had my home tested for mold by a professional. The results show a very high level of Aspergillus/Penicillium. When I did the research, this could be a reason for my problems. My next step is to have the mold cleaned up and removed, I am having a company give me an estimate.

Has anyone else had this experience or done any research on this subject? It appears that about 25% of the people have a gene (HLA-DR) that makes it hard to deal with this mold. I was wondering about getting tested for this gene. It may be a long shot but I am looking at all the possibilies for my lack of remission.

Thanks,
John

Hi, John. It could very well be the mold. My cousin had mold in her beautiful new home and she has been very ill from it. She can't even sleep in a bed, she sleeps on the floor on some type of mat. She has become hyper-sensitive to almost everything.

Mold can be a trigger for illness for some people - my health improved when I relocated to a mold free house.

there is quite a bit of science about mold and increase of histamine levels etc. we have also had some previous discussions about this topic, via search function found these for you

Hi John,
Mold triggers allergies for me. Significant allergies. I think a reaction to mold could definitely keep a person from achieving remission. When I was recovering, just hay fever seasonal allergies would set me back. If you aren’t taking an antihistamine you might try one to see if it’s helpful. Flonase or other nasal steroid can also be helpful.

Good luck-
Carol
