Hi all,

I've been on the Stage 1 Recovery Diet for about 4 months and am having my ups and downs but overall, feel better and hope that my gut is healing!

I've dropped quite a bit of weight, however, and despite eating several meals a day, I can't seem to keep it on. I'm below my "comfortable weight" of about 120-125 lbs, now down to 110 lb. I definitely can't lose any more weight.

Would love your advice on this!

Don't have any, in the same boat. Down from 150ish to 127 last GI visit, which is 3 lbs down from visit before :roll:
I'm in stage 2 adding foods and normal BM's most of the time.

to gain weight, you need to increase portion size, have more MC safe snacks in between meals, and have more carbs (potatos etc ) in the meals.

As the inflammation subsides and your intestines heal, your ability to absorb nutrients will improve again. In the meantime, it's almost impossible to gain weight unless you take budesonide.

Hi all,

I have been on Stage 1 diet since September and am now down to 108 lbs and beginning to lose muscle mass. I've eaten and eaten and eaten, counted calories and still am losing weight. I'm going to need to go off the diet as I just can't lose any more weight. I'm going to call my GI doctor for an appointment to get his thoughts -- any advice on how I can add things back in -- should I jump to the Phase II for a while? Should I go back on Entocort/Budesonide for a while? Would love any advice.

Hi Jillian,

Yes, if budesonide works for you, then you would probably benefit from restarting it. Especially if it causes you to gain weight. Something is probably wrong — you should be healing enough by now that you shouldn't still be losing weight. You may/must be sensitive to something in your diet. Do you still have D? What are you eating? How many calories per day are you getting? And have you had the EnteroLab tests?

I am eating turkey, chicken, fish (except shell fish) only cooked in olive or coconut oil, only salt as a spice. Overcooked zucchini, squash, sweet potato, jasmine rice in small amounts, avocado, banana. I'm eating 2,000 calories a day which is almost painful. I drink water or soda water.

I still have D but the frequency and urgency has been greatly reduced since going on this diet. I have had one to two days since September where I did not have watery D.

Did do the test and you advised me on that -- came back to stay way from Almonds and oatmeal.

It is a head scratcher to me.

Jillian.

I was wondering about the rice, but if EnteroLab says it's OK, then it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you just need more healing time. At 2,000 calories per day, you're not likely to be able to ever gain any weight (remember, a lot of our nutrition is wasted when we're inflamed), but as the inflammation fades away your weight should at least stabilize.

Shell fish should be safe (unless you were already allergic to them).

I'm assuming that you're not having any histamine symptoms (itching, rash, hives, throat congestion, or increased heart rate after eating).

It looks as though you may just need more time. If Budesonide works well, it might be beneficial to take it until you get to a better stage. Corticosteroids help to correct minor BAM issues also, which will help you to recover the fat in your diet that might otherwise be wasted.

Hi Jillian....

I'm going to take a huge guess that you are taking a good serving of at least 5000iu VitD3 and adding a Magnesium Glycinate (External-lotion, oil spray, or Epsom salt baths are a really great choice or Internal if you feel you can tolerate it) spread out during the day?

If not these would be my two biggest helpers that I would incorporate along with my diet. Since you say your D and urgency have reduced greatly with diet then it is safe for these two items to be a part of your daily regimen as they will help even more with the healing process.
