Hello everyone,
I have been a member for many years, but not active for a long time. I was doing really well, but ran into a problem about four weeks ago. Surprisingly C and not D. My GI's PA just wanted me to take some Magnesium Citrate and call it a day. Well, I was so bad that I did take the suggested half a bottle, that helped me for about two days then back to C again. I usually take Heather's Tummy (acacia senegal fiber), which works quite well and I was very normal for over a year except for one little bump caused by stress. This one was caused by stress too. We had our bathroom (did I mention we only have one) gutted. That did it. We are into week 3 of the remodel. Anyways, I increased my fiber, which is helping and I asked to go to a physical therapist who is working on my whole digestive system. She is wonderful. I am also taking Heather's Peppermint Oil capsules, which helped a lot with the pain. Also, taking the ACV/honey/hot water/cinnamon.
Anyways, it brought me back here and I have been catching up on some very good information and tips.
Thanks for always being at my fingertips.
Nancy

Hi Nancy!
I am glad you have been well, it is nice to see you check in here :-)
Lots of new findings over the last year, and Tex coming out with his 2nd book as a compliment to his first book
I can imagine a single bathroom makeover would stress me out too!
Take care,
Erica

Hi, Nancy. If you have access to a bathtub, soaking in Epsom Salt might help, too. When I had the flu I was soaking in 2 cups every day and I had to stop because after a few days my stool looked like a cow patty (sorry for TMI). I made a mental note that if I ever became C that's what I would do to move things along. I'm glad that you've been doing well.

Thank you for the kind words, Erica. And, Marcia, thank you for that tip. I always forget about epsom salts. It helps so many different ailments. As I increase my acacia things are getting better. That is good for both D and C. I have also been taking magnesium Glycinate, it seems to agree with me. I was only taking two a day, but increase that to three. I will back off if need be.

Hi Nancy, it's good to see you here. I've been doing very well myself, and don't come here as often but still check in from time to time. Keeping my fingers crossed that you'll be able to get everything under control again.
Erica - Thank you for mentioning updates and Tex's new book. I've already checked on Amazon and found the Updated and Revised edition plus the new book. I look forward to reading both of them.

Regarding Tex's book - the revised edition. Is there much I would learn from purchasing that, or will the newer book, "Understanding Microscopic Colitis," cover all updates?
Actually, I started reading the revised edition on Amazon, and feel I'd benefit from reading that one also.
We can never know too much about this disease.

Hi Paula,
As I recall, the updated version of the original doesn't really discuss any new material — the revisions mostly consist of the clarification of a number of points and the correction of a number of URLs for references that were no longer working, or the replacement of Internet references that are no longer available. I started reading and whenever I found something that I thought needed clarification, I either rewrote that section or added information.
Understanding Microscopic Colitis is mostly new material and much more detailed discussions of a few topics that were poorly understood when the first book was written. At least those were my intentions as I was writing.
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
