I think the flu is a type of virus. But I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong there. Glad Lou is going to see the doc. Geoff was still feverish this morning, but lower than yesterday evening and he hadn't had tylenol or anything since about 10pm, so hopefully he is on the mend. He was arguing about going to work with me last night. This morning he "willingly" called in sick.

Hi Katy--

Thanks for the reply---

I would think by now I should know the difference--but talking to a few friends, back home, who have been/and are sick---one says Flu/other says Viral???

Right now----I just want to see a Louigi that is his usual self---now that could be a debateable issue too--

And its times like this--where one wishes they were *home* with their regular dr.s~~~~

Im confident with the Dr. here but they dont know *us* like they do @ home---

Glad Geoff is taking time off----sometimes MEN can be smart!!!

Take care Katy--

Hi Barbara

Not sure I know the answer either, but I think the Dr.'s use a "Virus" when they're not sure what you have. Also flu seems to fall into a broad span - sometimes a cold is referred to as the flu too. Now I'm all mixed up.

I have something, flu, virus or??? Sore throat, fever, sniffles. Sounds like a common cold to me and I'm treating it like that. Hope it doesn't get too bad because I want to be better for the weekend.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi and put my two cent's worth in.

Love - Momster :???:

Influenza is a virus Barb so there is no difference at all. Do you have flu injections each year. We do & I am having mine before we go to New Zealan in a few weeks time. There are different strains of flu & it keeps them busy bringing out the updated vacinations each time. I think that the common cold is a virus as well only not as severe as the full blown influenza.

Dear Barb,

I thought that anything that wasn't bacterial was viral. Bacteria can be killed with antibiotics, but viruses are allowed to run their course unless you have a virus that is known to have serious aftereffects (like shingles, which can cause lifelong backpain) and the doc will prescribe an antiviral drug.

Polly, is that anywhere close to accurate? Wayne, anybody?

Marsha,

I believe you are right on the money, as far as bacteria and virus infections are concerned. Here's a little more information on the difference between bacteria and virus issues, and their treatment:
