Blood Pressure ?

Post by vivian »

I am beginning to feel a little better now that I am on Uceris. I still can't eat much, but I have gained a couple of pounds. Now I am noticing that my blood pressure is creeping up. For the past few months of being sick it was quite often 102 to 117 over 60's. I sometimes even had to eat potato chips to get it up to 120. Does anyone else have trouble with their blood pressure and could it be because of the Uceris? I have had kidney issues in the past when my blood pressure was higher and don't really want to go thru that again. Thank you for any info. Vivian

Corticosteroids cause the body to retain fluid and that can cause hypervolemia (too much fluid in the blood). Extra fluid in circulation can cause an increase in blood pressure. At least that's the most likely cause. IOW, corticosteroids cause high blood pressure which should return to normal if you don't stay on the Uceris long-term.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Tex: Wow, that is kind of what I was afraid of, but it sure seems like you are darned if you do and darned if you don't. Going on blood pressure pills isn't that big of a deal, and I know from experience that my kidney function will fall if my pressure goes up, but I am really beginning to hate old age. I see the GI doctor in 2 weeks and I guess we will go from there. I'm still trying to work with insurance and patient resources to try and get Uceris at a decent price. Even with the medicine I am finding heaps of foods that I can't eat. Even banannas are a no, as is acorn squash and any meat, well cooked or not. So far I am trying to just be thankful that the medicine is allowing me to function during the day. Very soft but usually formed stools with sometimes constipation. Yuck. I really admire all of you that have been dealing with MC for so many years. Thanks again for all the good info. that you give out. Vivian

You're welcome. You should be able to eat meats such as turkey, lamb, venison, rabbit and all other wild-type meats such as goose, duck, pheasant, etc. Except for bison — almost all bison contain domestic cattle DNA these days.

It gets much easier after you are able to get to solid remission.

Getting older is not so bad, once one gets all the symptoms under control. It's just not quite as much fun as being young.
