Successful Travel
Hello. I want to share my experience with traveling to FL by airplane for anyone who is new to traveling with MC. In my carry-on bag I had almond butter packets, a banana, Nick's turkey sticks and a bag of potato chips made with safe oil that I purchased in the airport. I purchased a "yogurt-to-go" cup at the local Dollar Store that is great to carry food in. The lid has a tight seal that doesn't leak. In FL we had a refrigerator and microwave so we went to the Publix where I purchased Silk almond milk, Applegate Farms uncured turkey dogs, frozen steamable broccoli, steamable frozen zucchini, Love beets, bananas, a can of tuna and a 90% Lindt chocolate bar. For breakfast I had Nutiva hemp protein (that I took along) mixed with almond milk. Banana was a mid-morning snack and for lunch I took two turkey dogs, a few potato chips and either broccoli or zucchini and a beet in the yogurt- to- go cup to the beach with me. It was perfect! I don't normally eat that many turkeys dogs in one week but you gotta do what you gotta do. I didn't eat the tuna while we were there. We ate dinner out every evening and I didn't have any issues. I had steak two evenings, lobster two evenings and salmon one evening with a plain baked potato and steamed broccoli or steamed vegetable of the day as the sides every night. Most of the menus had items listed as "gf" and I requested no dairy. I took two GlutenEase before each meal that we dined out. I felt good the entire time and I slept better than I have in months. It's so good for the soul to get away and enjoy a break for the daily stresses of life. As it has rained almost every day since we returned home the vacation seems like a far distant memory! While it's hard to imagine when you're first starting out, there is life after MC! Hang around here and before you know it you'll be posting a success story.

That sounds wonderful Marcia. I admit that I have kept my travel brief, like 3 days-2 nights at the most, just to make it easier. I also only eat one meal out per day. I have tried Gluten Cutter but not Gluten Ease (they are probably similar).
Thank you for sharing your experience.

Hi, Carol. We're traveling to GA in a few weeks to Ft. Benning for my son's graduation. I'm hoping I have as much success there...I'm afraid the area around a military base won't be as accommodating as FL. I'm going to ask him to check for things at the Base Exchange before we arrive. It's a much shorter trip and I'm thinking positively. When I was packing I was thinking how much other people take for granted. Unless you live with this disease you can't imagine having to think about everything you will eat.

I know what you mean Marcia. Friends have asked me what foods I miss. It’s not the food. It’s the spontaneity that I miss. The ability to just pick up and go without such tedious planning.

Really great post Marcia!
I agree Carol it’s the spontinaity that I miss also, but it’s getting better!
I notice I don’t take nearly the tote of food items on trips anymore
