It was a hallelujah moment yesterday when I found this group! I went to my husband and said, "Honey, I have found my people! The Potty People!" He rolled his eyes! It's been a lonely 3 years of constant D, with no explanation other than "Take Lomotil" from my GI doc. I was not interested in just treating the symptom! But he had no answers! About ten yrs ago, another GI doc stated after a routine colonoscopy that I had mild LC, with no symptoms, so don't worry about it, no treatment to be had.
The D had come on so suddenly that I never considered gluten, or dairy, or nightshades, all of which I have eaten all my life. Google searches turned up nothing of any help. I had been losing weight and getting "foggy brained" and started worrying about "leaky gut". Paid for an online program and one thing led to another...and I found you! People who know exactly what I'm going through!
So glad to meet you all. I am Christine, an RN on a cardiac floor at a large hospital in Tampa. Frustrating that most of my life I have eaten a very healthy diet. Organic, no beef, no pork, rarely clean chicken, fish, but mostly, lots of beans and greens, vegetarian, very little dairy. Organic garden in the back yard! Very low sugar. Yes, gluten, but never white crap bread, always dense, whole grain, seeded blah, blah!! Now I see the "vital wheat gluten" meat substitutes and roll my eyes! So healthy, or so I thought.
Now, I need to get used to a new normal. I've got lots to learn and glad I have a place for my questions. Gotta get myself organized and decide what tests I need, what requests to make of my primary, (won't go back to that same GI), what food to figure into my daily routine, and what to trash. Also have a book to read, which I just ordered (thankyou Mr. Persky!)
Promise my posts will not be so long next time!
Christine

Hi Christine and welcome. I think it was a hallelujah moment for a lot of us when we found this site. I came here in 2010 and have been pretty much in remission since 2011. I still check in here pretty regularly because I continue to learn something everytime I'm here. Glad you found us and I hope you feel better soon. Deb
Hi Christine,
Welcome to our Internet family. It's a pleasure to meet you. It sounds as though your experiences with medical treatments of this disease have been as disappointing as the medical treatments that most of us have encountered. We're not anti-medical — we just think there's a better way to treat microscopic colitis. Comparing notes and changing our diets allows us to prevent the symptoms, rather than trying to treat them with drugs after they develop.
Please don't worry about writing long posts — sometimes long posts are necessary because it's a complicated/convoluted disease. Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi, Christine. Welcome! I achieved remission after finding this group. How lucky we are to have found them! Hang around, ask questions, read the forums and before you know it you'll be helping newcomers.

Welcome Christine :-)
So glad you found us, it sounds like you are making every effort to getting a handle on your MC/LC.
It's sad people have to 'stumble' upon this fantastic forum....I wish it was prescribed to visit by every GI out there because this place rocks when it comes to helpful advice, knowledge and understanding of this terrible intestinal debacle.
I am in a remission of sorts....I have really good days and some not as great of ones, but I feel rather normal and that is all I can ask for. I don't worry about leaving my home anymore so that is huge!
Feel free to ask anything!
Cheers
Erica
