Horrid chest gas

Post by vivian »

Does anyone else have to deal with gas symptoms in their chest that are so bad that you feel like your chest is going to fly apart? I used to have this occassionally when I had a gall bladder, but that has been removed. This has just started again recently. Could it be because of the budesindite (sp)? It occurred last night right after I took the 3 pills (9 mg). I am afraid to take anything for it, since I don't know if GasX will be okay to take with the steroids. Thanks for any info. Vivian

That is an indicator that you are low on stomach acid.

Either have the tablets close after eating, when bile amounts are high, or look at other options like ACV betaine HCL that boost acid.

Body needs good levels of Zinc, B6 and magnesium to have balanced stomach acid for optimised digestion.

That's interesting. I've not heard about it being stomach acid before. Do you know if it is safe to take GasX with the steroids? I'm working on getting more magnesium. This type of gas is so horrid and even after it goes away, my chest hurts for a couple of days. Vivian

A symptom is not a cause
When I explain to patients that GERD is caused by not enough stomach acid, rather than too much, they are initially doubtful. “If that’s true”, they say, “then why do my antacid drugs provide relief?”

I’m not denying that the symptoms of heartburn and GERD are caused by stomach acid refluxing into the esophagus. Nor am I arguing that reducing or eliminating stomach acid with drugs doesn’t relieve those symptoms.

What’s crucial to understand is that any amount of acid in the esophagus is going to cause problems. That’s because its delicate lining isn’t protected against acid like the stomach lining is. You don’t have to have excess acid in your stomach to have heartburn.

Also, symptom relief doesn’t imply that the underlying cause of the problem is being addressed. Too often western medicine focuses on suppressing symptoms without paying attention to what is causing the symptom in the first place. The misguidedness of this approach is clearly demonstrated by the use of acid inhibiting drugs to treat heartburn and GERD – problems which are caused by not enough stomach acid!

as i mentioned above, the body needs zinc, B6 and magnesium to optimise acid / balanced digestion.
it takes a few weeks of focussed supplementation to correct deficiencies that are causing the pain/discomfort etc

Vivian,

You will get better results if you take the budesonide first thing in the morning, or right after breakfast. That's when they are designed to be taken, and it's what the label recommends. I'm surprised that you can sleep, taking it in the evening. Is there a reason why you're taking it then?

I've never heard that complaint before (gas from budesonide) but yes, it's generally safe to take any simethicone-based product such as Gas-X. It shouldn't have any adverse effect on the budesonide.

Hi Tex, I take the pills at night because when I first started I was so afraid to take them, that I figured if I took them at night I would go to sleep and not know if there were any side effects. My doctor told me it didn't matter when I took them, so I have just continued to take them at night. I have a better time remembering to take things in the evening. Also, I have no problem sleeping. I do think, after looking at my log, that part of the problem was that I tried eating a very small piece of ham the night before. Meat, of any kind and I, don't get along at all. We don't have access to any wild meat around here and even organic turkey and I don't get along. I really need to stop trying but it would be nice to find something that didn't give me a stomach ache. At least I am finally feeling a little better and hopefully the gas issue will resolve itself soon. The center of my chest still hurts a little, but not nearly as bad. Thanks for saying that it should be okay to take GasX. I did look on line to see what might be bad to take with the pills and GasX and Tums weren't on the list. I don't mind gas in my stomach, but I hate when it happens much higher. Have a great day. Vivian
