Spleen and Ideal - we have a spleen deficiency people!
Another, possibly better way of approaching our problem..
My wife took me to a well respected TCM GI specialist in China who diagnosed me with a spleen deficiency with dampness. He gave me a thorough explanation how to restore balance and reduce my symptoms. It is in line with what we in general already do. But he gave more insight, advice, and instructions which foods will benefit and which not. I thought I needed to share this with you guys here!
It is fascinating how TCM looks at the body. I have found an article that explains the spleen deficiency pretty accurate, much better than I could explain it. It also lists the foods to eat to warm the spleen and is very much in line what I’ve been told by the doctor. Please take your time to have a read through.

I’ve found that by tweaking my diet with foods the doctor suggested I’m doing so much better. Some things I’ve changed.. In the morning i eat sweet (from the broth of over cooked vegetables) rice porridge/congee. I make a drink from mung beans (!) that I drink throughout the day. No more cold drinks. I’ve added much more vegetables like pumpkin/sweet potato/yam/daikon to my stews. Soups/Bone broths I make with ginger, yams/daikon, Job’s tears and dates. Before my diet consistent mostly out of meat. The doctor explained this is not good for the balance and assured me that adding more of the right vegetables will not cause problems to my gut. He was right. This feels so much more balanced. He did tell me if the spleen imbalance has been there for a long time it’s important to add more meat in the beginning and gradually tone it down.
This is the first time I’ve encountered a doctor who actually made sense!
