Yellow Sqaush

Post by grannykathy »

I have not eaten any squash since I've been on elimination diet. In fact not since I've been sick. I am making my soup today from the Chicken Bone Broth I made yesterday. Should I add in some squash. Is it considered "safe". My plan was: chicken; potatoes; squash; carrots; green beans. I may be eating this exclusively for a few days so don't want to put anything in there that's not safe for me. Oh and I may put in a little rice too.

Another question does the bone broth itself have a lot of protein in it. If so, I won't add a lot of chicken.

Squash are generally safe for virtually all of us as long as you remove the epicarp and mesocarp (the peel) in order to eliminate most of the fiber.

A cup of bone broth, made with chicken bones, contains about 6 grams of protein. Slow simmering with lots of bones increases the protein content. It's not the amount of protein, but the unique protein composition of bone stock that gives it superior healing characteristics.

Hi Kathy,

I would leave the squash and rice out of this equation (use them as a different meal together for lunch or dinner)....not because it isn't good for you, but you have many ingredients in that soup and if you react you may not know what you are reacting to. For the most part all of them are safe,....Bone Broth is mostly protein and much better absorbed by our intestines so minimal meat is perfectly fine.

Hmm, I didn't see this till my soup was done. I didn't end up doing squash but I did do rice. I was just trying to get in as many calories as possible. Hoping for the best. If this sets with me I may eat it exclusively for a few days. Been on 3 Budesonides a day for 5 days and still having usually one mush and one WD every morning. Then that's it for the day, but those two spells usually leave me feeling washed out for the day.

As per the info in the stage 1 eating plan in guidelines to recovery section, best to limit meals to 2-3 veges.

Besides, there aren't many calories in squash.
