Juicing for MC

Post by grannykathy »

I have a nice juice machine that has been on the shelf for a while because I got lazy. I use to especially like apple/celery/carrot juice. Would that be a healthy option for me since I wouldn't be getting the fiber from the pulp?

Oh well I just did a search and found some posts. Didn't look like it was really recommended so.............

ref juiceing

Post by nhotch »

Hi Kathy

I have been a juicer since 1999, I was diagnosed with LC Dec 2015 and I am still drinking carrot juice daily. It is the only way I get my vegetable intake. I make (in my juicer) and drink at least 10 oz (with my evening meal) of just organic carrot juice (not mixed with any other vegie) must be organic carrots. The carrot juice did not bother me even when my stomach was inflamed or when I would have a flareup. On some days that was the only thing I could tolerate. I makeup enough carrot juice in individual bottles for a week and freeze them. I take one out daily and then wait until it unfreezes and drink it when it is warm.

Thank you Nancy. That is good to know. I love carrot juice. But would also love to add the apple and celery. But don't want to mess myself up. But knowing you are good with the carrot juice is encouraging and so glad it works for you and gives you an easy way to get your vegetables. Just seems to me like it would be so much healthier than the canned carrots and green beans I've been eating.

Hi Kathy

I just drink the carrot juice straight as that is enough fiber including the one banana I eat in the morning for breakfast for me. If you do decide to start drinking organic carrot juice from your juicer make sure you buy organic carrots not the regular store bought ones. There is a definate difference in taste and nutrition between them. Your canned carrots and beans are processed and are not at all as healthy for you. Also you will notice after a while your stools will be kinda orange in color, that is natural.

Thank you Nancy. By the way, what kind of bottles do you use to freeze your carrot juice and does that not cause it to lose some of its nutrition? Seems like when I first got my juicer I heard or read that you need to drink the juice immediately after juicing to get all the nutrition from it.

Hi Kathy

That is why I freeze it immediately after putting it in the small bottles after making it. I just buy the small cranberry juice bottles to use (i do not drink the cranberry juice, I just buy it for the bottles). I rinse these bottles out good before using them. I have been doing this for 19 years so I believe I have been getting a good nutrition value from it. My annual blood always shows good results, except for when I got LC then my D3 and Magnesium was way low. I contacted LC because of over use of antibolics and NASIDs because of dental work completed over a years time. Before that I had no stomach issues.

Thanks Nancy. I will look for those bottles. I also took "no-no" medications for years. Nexium and aleve. I sure wish I had know the damage they could do. Then some anti-biotics for ear infection. Then I got cdiff last Summer. I quit those medications and started taking some good probiotics and was doing great! Really better with bowel health than ever in my life. Then 6 months later this hit. :(

Hi Kathy

I have been taking Nano Silver (this was recommended by Erica) instead of probiotics. I believe this has really been helping me also. Just a suggestion you might try it too instead of probiotics. check out their web page www.rxsilver.com.

 If your digestive system self-destructed (developed MC) six months after starting to take probiotics, I don't understand why you assume that you were doing "really great". Sometimes, looks are deceiving. Either the probiotics were masking the inflammation caused by the other parameters, or they were part of the process of predisposing your digestive system to the development of MC.

I may be completely :barkingupwrongtree: here, but this is the first time that I've ever considered that probiotics might possibly predispose one's digestive system to MC (in some cases). I wonder if it's possible and if it's ever happened to anyone else.

Tex, not wrong tree. Given that a lot of functional practitioners recommend pro-biotic for IBS it is a reasonable connection.

Additionally, most main stream pro-biotics are high histamine - so it links with increased inflammation and depleting key nutrients (magnesium/B6 etc)

Hmmmmmm. Never thought of it that way but by golly you're right. Sometimes thinking out loud can open doors that lead to a clue. A lot of "experts" recommend probiotics for people with digestive issues without ever considering the possibility that in some cases, they might cause adverse digestive system effects.

Thanks for the insight.

So I thought I was doing something good for myself and I was actually dooming myself to MC? I had been told that this one would keep the cdiff from coming back:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0056 ... UTF8&psc=1
And was also taking this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AU ... UTF8&psc=1
In fact I am still taking both of them.

And that's not the worst of it. My 20 yr old grand-daughter is having intermittent diarrhea. I just told her mom the other day to order some of that first one. Don't know if she ordered it yet. Guess maybe I should tell her never mind. I hope its not too late for her to cancel it. She is trying to get her in to a gastro doc.

And Tex I thought I was doing great because my bowels were working better than they ever had in my life. Every day - just like clock-work and I felt good. I thought it was due to the probiotics. Then I got up with morning with diarrhea which continued off and on for a while and then it just got worse until I finally went to the Gastro doc who diagnosed the MC but otherwise turns out to be clueless. Thank God I found you guys.

Looks like there are a lot of choices for the colodial Silver at Amazon. What should I get? Is there a pill? It all looks like liquid.
