P.F. Chang's and a new Kosher restaurant this week

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

Yesterday, we had an afternoon lunch at the P.F. Chang's in Sugarland. We actually were able to get our chicken dish off the gf menu by ordering it without the egg that it's usually marinated in -- they have to cook it from scratch for us for that reason.

Also, i don't think that either of the dishes that we ordered contained soy sauce, anyway, so they had a good flavor already without it. (Could be mistaken about this as one of the main sauces they use on this gf menu contains gf soy sauce).

At any rate, I'm not too concerned if it did have a little, as I plan to get officially tested for it soon, so I'll know for certain, but I'll not do the soy flour waffles as i'm not going to include that in my diet anyway.

We also got one order of plain steamed veggies to stretch things out a bit as well as have them to bring home afterwards with a little of the rice.

Wish this was a chain restaurant, but the Kosher place we went to today is an individually owned restaurant called "Susie's." They call their food "Mediteranian," and say that it's both Kosher AND Persian that they specialize in. Will have to get better acquainted with the specifics of Persian.

We talked with Susie when we first went inside to make sure there was something we could eat on the menu. Turns out there's lots! Also, they were more than willing to make substitutions, and they were very generous with these.

Not only is the restaurant totally free of any dairy (milk products), but the area where they make their homemade bread (pita) from flour is a totally separate room from where the other foods are prepared.

Susie's husband can't have meat tenderizers, and the young cook had what was apparently an anaphylactic reaction to tihini his first meal off the plane after going to Israel to spend 4 yrs. Now if you don't think THIS was a safe place to eat, I don't know who could've been more careful!

One of my favorite things was the "green rice." The green color comes from some herb they put lots of in with it.

I'm too sleepy to make any sense at this point, I'm afraid.

By the way, I tried the Larbar mole' today -- unique flavor, isn't it?

Yours, Luce

Hi Luce!

How lucky to find two safe places to eat out! I'm envious.

Love,

Polly

CHANGS is awesome------

A friend of ours is a diabetic and when the waitress heard him talking the manager immediately brought over a special menu----he uses this new pump and has to count his carbs.

Its an amazing thing---eliminates the *needle* injecting--

And CHANGS was more than helpful--
