Almond Butter

Post by grannykathy »

So I bought some Almond Butter but can't quite figure out what to do with it since I can't put it on crackers or bread. I tried just eating a little off a spoon but it is soooo thick and a bit dry. Maybe I could mix in a little honey? How do you all use it in your diet?

You bought the wrong brand, or it's out of condition (old). Almond butter should taste great, and it should be very smooth (unless you prefer the crunchy style). I smear it on a frozen banana, as least I do during the cooler seasons. During the summer I have to pass because of histamine issues exacerbated by the heat. Some people put it on rice cakes and things of that sort.

Hmmmmmm . That's usually OK. I buy the crunchy version of Barney Butter. The date's stamped on the bottom. I occasionally get a batch that's too oily on top and too dry at the bottom, but that's because it naturally slowly separates over time. Never received a really bad jar of it, but anything's possible, I suppose.

As I recall, they make a number of choices. I buy the version with palm fruit oil and cane sugar. If you're using the version that doesn't contain these ingredients, yes, the plain version is flavorless. I find that version to be pretty much unpalatable, also. It also separates quickly (overnight), without the palm fruit oil.

I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to add honey to try to salvage it, as long as you don't overdo it and create a sugar problem.

I've had the kind without the oil and it is very dry. I spread it on rice cakes.

Ok its not outdated. I stirred it up and it was a little smoother. It says no sugar or salt added. I tried it with some honey and that did help it a lot. Still not quite like the consistency of Jiffy Peanut Butter. :)

You have to buy the version with the palm oil to get a consistency like Jiffy Peanut Butter. Jiffy uses a similar stabilizer.

I use this one....and it has just enough honey in it that I can stir it and it is smooth....I put it on my Gluten free pancakes and my Canyon House bread.

Polly
Almond Butter on apple slices sounds wonderful, but I'm not doing any raw fruit right now. Something to look forward to later though.
