I wish I had worn a daiper.....

This is a life-altering, frustrating, disgusting, and humbling disease, but if nothing else, it teaches humility.

You're right, it is an adventure, and it can be a very rewarding adventure if we take advantage of the opportunity.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

My biggest complaint with acquaintances is that they always think you can 'cheat' on a diet if it's a special occasion. Most women I know have been on every diet known, and cheated on every single one of them. Some diets even have a 'cheat day'.
I lie and tell them I am allergic.

I'm going to remember 'Why do you want to know?'

I found these stories very familiar and I guess we live with the possibility of where it could happen next! My current worry is a really long dental appointment coming up tomorrow. I will take Immodium and hope for the best. Thanks for listening, so glad you are all sharing.

My biggest fear also, maddiegrace!

The longer-acting local (numbing) injections are known to promote histamine release (ex. carbocaine), which wreaks havoc on our guts. So, I always request the shorter ones and let the dentist know I'd rather have an extra injection if it wears off than take my chances on the longer-acting ones. It might help to take an antihistamine before going (like Zantac).

Also, I always confide in the assistant who sets me up in the chair that I have colitis and may need to dash suddenly to the bathroom. They are usually quite sympathetic. I also request to have a few scheduled breaks during the procedure and have always found the dentist to be accommodating. If really nervous, you can wear a Depends.

Good luck!

Thanks Polly, I will call the dentist's office today! I learned something new and I really appreciate it.

I have found this to be a daily adventure indeed!

I can so relate to all these stories myself....the last 8 years have been chalked full of these episodes...although I have been diligent to be sure everywhere I have gone there was a restroom nearby. I think my stress level would make me pass out should I mess my drawers! I completely understand now why my grandma would be so concerned while shopping as she would all of a sudden get a strange look on her face and tell me she needed to find a bathroom quick. I was maybe 10 yrs old at the time....so glad there is an explanation as to what this is now.

Sex has been off the table for quite a while...but I hope for a turn around in the near future since starting my elimination diet. The sudden act of it all is such an unwelcome visitor...where the heck does it come from. A few gurgles and there it is, hardly any time to react sometimes!!

car accident this morning caused an accident

Post by gac »

I was prepared with a change of clothes when I went to my doctor's appointment this morning. Was on my way home, only a couple of miles from home when a man rear-ended me. OH NO! I had to pull over on the side of the road, wait for the police to arrive and write up the accident report, etc. That took at least 30 minutes. But the time I got home, had to change my diaper. Will this ever get better?????? I am tied to my house except for doctor's appointments and emergency runs to store. But I didn't plan on a car accident this morning. Change of clothing didn't help me as I stood there on the side of the road in my diaper, knowing I really needed to get home as soon as possible. Only all of you know how I felt.

It absolutely can get better. This morning I took my usual 1 hr walk, leaving the house at 6:00 AM. At my worst I was afraid to even leave my apartment to bring the dog out for 5 minutes. and certainly not in the morning. I still give myself an hour in the morning before I leave the house but I no longer have to carry a change of clothes with me or worry about bathrooms. I discovered my food sensitivities and have been diligent in avoiding them. I don't care much about being able to add foods back although I can eat vegetables now, even raw. What I care about is being able to leave the house without anxiety. I am sorry about the accident. I used to freak out when I found myself stuck in traffic for just that reason. It can get better.

Hi,

I consider myself in 80% remission (but I will always stick to my diet), but during summer vacation I had to cough and then came a big sneeze... Oops! That hasn't happened for at least 6 months. I took a Zyrtec (that has become my mantra...) and the rest of the day was fine.

Weird :-)

We SO understand about the accidents and wish we were invisible when it happens. I always carry a complete change of clothes in the car trunk for these times.

I just read this whole thread and it has lifted my spirits.

I have been blessed so far to have only had "accidents" at home (so far). I carry an emergency kit in my purse whenever I leave the house. A large size zip lock bag containing an extra depends, wet wipes and a small pair of scissors in case its such a mess I have to cut it off rather than taking it down my legs. I figure if I have to use the kit, then I can use the same zip lock bag to put all the mess in and throw it away.

Thank God I haven't had to use my "emergency kit", but it makes me feel better to have it on hand. I wear heavy duty depends at all times now, 24/7. For some silly reason it took me quite a while to allow myself to buy depends rather than pads. But I'm so over that. I feel soooo much more secure in them. Of course I am 69 not 32 like another poster. Also have had a fair degree of urine incontinence for years so between that and the MC I am just so thankful there IS such a thing as Depends. And thankful for this site where these things can be discussed.

I too just read through all these posts. I have been in the same situation many times. We need to do whatever it takes to get through the day. Some days are tougher than others!

Night time accidents

Post by dcerway »

You are not alone, Lesley, with night time accidents. I think the worse are when you are away from home (friends, relatives, vacation) without access to washing machine and wonder how to deal with the situation! It is so embarrassing to reveal that the bedding needs to be changed because you have no control over your bathroom urgencies. :(

Last week we got to the grand Canyon with the grandkids; the gut had been good. We travel in an rv, (taking my bathroom with me.) Got to the parking lot, about to the shuttles. And the Dreaded D hit. So I missed the tour, not willing to risk it. Fortunately I have seen GC before and am sure it hasn't changed. But what a disappointment.

This is so awful

I do a lot of hiking. I had a bad accident and had to let it rip. Thankfully, I was hiking a long hike in Austin, TX, steps and hills and I had to let it rip! You can't hold it. No toilet paper, nothing...so I dragged my buttock on the dirt, leaves and twigs for wiping myself. I'm going to Peru, hiking and lots of walking and I'm scared to death of an accident. Does anybody wear diapers? This is Madness and I'm terrified of an embarrassing explosive POOP! Help! Thanks, Dorothy
