Just got a Blue & Gold (m--I don't mean UofM either)
I'm so excited!!!
I just got a Blue and Gold Macaw, Alex. The people who had him couldn't keep him anymore. He's a sweetheart already and hasn't even warmed up to me yet. He and his cage were free.
Dave thinks Macaws are too loud, so he's here on approval by Dave. I hope it works out. I might have to use my feminine charms to convince Dave it's a good thing--after Dave rinses all of the soap off of course.
We are in the midst of redoing our kitchen, which is why I haven't been around much. I've striped off all of the old flooring in the kitchen, hall and bathroom and am just about ready to start tiling. Dave is trying to finishing the cabinets before he goes back to work. I'll be so glad when it's done.
Love, Jean

HAHAHAHAHA, Jean!
You know I always get a kick out of your soap story!
Alex sounds wonderful. Yup, we need a photo. I can't believe you got him for free. That's quite a deal. I read that a macaw's screech carries up to 2 miles in the wild! No wonder Dave has some concerns. LOL! What is his personality like? (Alex, not Dave). And how many birds to you have now? Also, how is the bird with the head drop coming along?
Love,
Polly, who is playing "20 Questions" with you while you are trying to finish the flooring, for Pete's sake!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Hi All,
Polly, I knew you'd like the reference to the soap story!
Alex is a very sweet bird. He's already let me pick him up, pet him and hold his beak. He even walked over to me and climbed up on my lap. I expected it to take two weeks to get this far. He hasn't been too loud, except when I was on the phone for some reason. I think he wanted attention. He's still a little nervous being in a new place. Right now we're listening to Louis Armstrong and dancing, all of the birds and I. This might be my new workout routine.
Alex is a little plucked on his shoulders and under his wings. Have I mentioned that a company developed a rice based diet for birds that are wheat sensitive? Some pluckers stop when wheat is removed from their diets! I'll be experimenting with him.
I now have three pet birds: Alex the Blue and Gold, Zoey the Grey and Phyllis the wry neck Pionus. Phyllis is doing much better. She has regained much of her body weight and her neck seems to be getting better. She's gotten a lot more active since she's been her. I had a bird sexing clinic here (Vet surgically sexes birds) and he told me about 10 things that could have caused her neck problem. Most were degenerative, which I don't think apply because she is getting better not worse. He did mention 'egg yolk stroke' which happens when hens lay too much, probably what happened.
I have 10 pairs of birds set up. I've had a terrible problem with calcium deficiency this season and have only two babies. I think I have it licked now. Well see with the next clutch of eggs.
Thanks for asking, I needed a break from the floor. Love, Jean
