Blood tests for vitamin levels

Post by DeeDee »

What blood tests can I have done to find out my magnesium level, or vitamin D level, vit B, zinc, etc? I didn’t have any blood work to know my levels before being diagnosed last year. I have been taking supplements for several months, besides Budenoside. Wondering if I am getting the right mix of things? What else should I be looking for? Couldn’t find info in past threads.

I am taking 5000 Vit D3 and 600 of Magnesium Glycinate.

I don’t have a PCP, last 2 retired, and my GI would ask why I want blood tests. Laughed at my stool test. I should find a new PCP. My chiropractor could order blood work for me but I need to know what to ask for.

Thank you!

Key tests would be Vit D3, magnesium, B12
If doing zinc testing it is good to do copper as well and look at the ratio of the two.

And for magnesium, request the RBC (Red Blood Cell) magnesium test, rather than the usual serum test that doctors always order by default.

Thanks for the suggestions. Not sure I dare go off supplements and meds for 2-3 days.

That probably applies mostly to the "B" vitamins and magnesium. You shouldn't stop any meds, especially prescription meds, unless requested by your doctor.
