Stage one and two - dessert recipes??

Post by barbieAnn »

Hello,

Does anyone have any dessert/snack ideas for Stage One and Two recovery? I've been eating gluten free cookies/muffins, but believe i need to stay away from these for awhile -

Thanks!

As most deserts involve sugar, it is best to reduce sugar intake in The early stages of healing.

There are things like coconut ice cream, gf/dr/sf ice cream, yoghurt etc available but these are best kept to a minimum in early days.
I have adapted some of my recipes to be Not only MC safe but low sugar as well. These are easy to find via paleo web sites etc. but again for early stages of healing they are not suitable as they do have nuts or dried fruit, etc.

I was a former sweet tooth/sugar addict before MC. With time ( and fixing nutritional deficiencies like magnesium ) the strong craving for sweet things has abated.
Of note, magnesium helps to regulate sugar in the body.

If you browse through recipes in this section you will see some possible options.
Main thing. Low amount of ingredients and small serves.

A little warmed applesauce with cinnamon on it, 1/2 peeled baked apple with cinnamon, 1/2 peeled baked pear with cinnamon.
Some folks do a frozen banana ice cream without the ice cream kind of thing.

As you get better: 10 Enjoy Life chocolate chips

I can eat the GF baked goods now but it was several years before I could do so and even now I must have small portions.

Try half a frozen banana (give it a minute or two for the outside to begin to thaw) slathered with cashew butter (If you can tolerate bananas and cashew butter).

Or you can run frozen bananas through a Yonana machine to get banana ice cream. But I agree with everyone else — a recovery diet is not the time or place to experiment with gourmet deserts. That's best left to after you are in remission (because it might possibly prevent you from ever achieving remission).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
