REMISSION Q

Post by barbaranoela »

U know----after reading all the posts---I thought

Remission??? well as Tex said---symptom free--- and to that I have to re-add to what I posted--

Am SYMPTOM free cus of watching my diet---meds. just for my lipids--
and if I were in total *remission* I would gather that the little things that I sample ,but bother me would indicate-- not in total remission, just in CONTROL----
I think thats a better Xplanation of my issues---

Actually I am due for a *look-see* but I really would NOT prefer this invasion---

I use--*in control*, as my choice---to avoid the Colonoscopy----

Was glad I came back to RE-READ Waynes post---and all that Luce added--
always good to re-group description of this ailment--

and good replies also--

Correction: To prevent overeating, I now just have a whole salad, a half sweet potato, and a half of the steak. (Think I put salad again instead of steak when I'd already listed the salad once. Sorry).

Yours, Luce

Hi Andrew,

I would like to add that I am in remission too - dietary means only. I am positive that you will find a way to achieve remission too - it doesn't have to take a long time; but what is holding you up? You do not need to wait for the test results from Dr. Fine before you start experimenting/changing your diet; if you want to feel better you need to start to do something - this isn't going to go away on it's own  It is so tough to really let it sink in that MC is here to stay; we would like to see it go away just like a bad case of the flu or something else but it just doesn't; we need to get involved and take responsibility for our own feeling of well being and health - once you become active you will quickly learn that you can do a lot to improve your own situation.

Love,
Karen

Hi Karen, and Andrew and everybody,

I thought this would be an appropriate place to share something I've been thinking about sharing for a while. When I was on the cruise ship recently, I had to be really strict about diet so I didn't ruin everyone's vacation by getting sick, and stuck in the room for a day. (Or in some foreign city's nasty bathroom.) Anyway, my diet was meat, salad, fruit, and Green & Black's chocolate for 12 days. No tortilla chips, or any other thing that I still eat and justify to myself. On the flight back home I had some Fritos. Holy cow! after a period of having such a clean diet, did I ever notice a reaction. So, I guess corn products are really ARE a problem. Probably the last remaining intolerance. (This feels a lot like a confession. I'm sure you understand, because, well, you know . . .) I thought there couldn't possibly be another thing to cut out of my diet, but I was wrong, and now I really am in a place where I don't have to take pepto, or calcium tablets, or anything to control tummy problems. I'm loosing weight, sleep at night without waking up, and don't have bloating anymore either. Eating corn chips just once after the 12 day clean diet period caused immediate bloating, insomia, night sweats, and 30 hours later, loose stools. It was so noticable that it was impossible to deny.

Anyway, sorry, this is a long story, but I thought it would be worth sharing because I did discover the solution to the remaining 1% of my health concerns. If I can help by being an example of what not to do, i.e. living in intolerence denial, I guess that's something.

Hi Marsha,

I find that I can eat tortilla chips without significant problems, however, I cannot eat Fritos without asking for trouble. Fritos are not tortilla chips. Tortilla chips, as you probably know, are made by frying, or baking, cut-up corn tortillas. Fritos, on the other hand, are made by a direct extrusion process, bypassing the tortilla stage.

Compared with Frito-Lay Resturant Style White Corn tortilla chips, for example, (which are deep fried), Fritos have 45% more fat content, and, (to my taste buds at least), are noticeably greasier tasting. I have to guess, (since the technology that they use is proprietary), that the original Fritos corn chips simply have a much higher residual content of the naturally occurring oil in the corn, whereas, with the tortilla chips, much of it is lost with the rinse water, during the masa making process.

IOW, the extra oil in Fritos may be causing your problem, or at least amplifying it.

Love,
Wayne

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
