Dry Skin

Post by Paddy »

I hope this isn't a silly question, but...does MC cause dry skin? It started last month, the skin on my arms and legs are dry and getting wrinkly. I use a lot of moisturizer and nothing helps. I am still having diarrhea daily, so not sure if this is the problem. I try to drink a lot of water every day. I was just wondering if this is one of the symptoms.

Thank you.

Hi Paddy,

MC probably causes some skin dryness because of the dehydrating effect of active MC. But IMO skin dryness is primarily a secondary symptom of MC. I say secondary because I believe the primary problem is the magnesium deficiency that's caused by MC (and by taking budesonide.) At least that has been my experience. I normally had somewhat dry skin most of my life. A few years ago when I discovered that I had a chronic magnesium deficiency (because it suddenly became much worse) and I corrected it, the dryness seemed to fade away. I take 300 mg of Doctor's Best brand magnesium glycinate every day. I'm 77 and my skin looks better than it did 20 years ago. Of course it might just look that way because my eyesight is deteriorating.

Agree with Tex, Vit D3 and magnesium and other key nutrients are part of hair and skin health.

Meals based on home made bone broth (collagen and amino acids) will also help.

Thank you so much Gabes, I just bought stronger vitamins this morning. I will look up recipes for bone broth. Anything to help my stomach heal.

I really appreciate your help too.
