Elemental Diet- good results...

Post by jnmast »

Hello Everyone..
Still so grateful for this site and the words of wisdom and familiar issues I continue to read about every time I log on!

Has anyone tried an elemental diet?
My nutritionist/dietician recommended it when I was in acute flare, to give my bowels/ system a rest and maintain some amount of nutrient load. It is a powder that you mix with water.

I did not use it at the time but she now has recommended it for weight gain, as an adjunct to the diet I'm tolerating. The idea is that it helps accelerate bowel healing and THAT helps weight gain-- makes a lot of sense to me.
Anyhow, it is expensive but so far, definitely worth it. (She 'prescribed' and gave me an online link and I order it there.)
I had my micronutrient levels checked two weeks ago (still awaiting results) right before I started daily use of this... slowly, of course, because still wary of adding anything new into the regimen. So I'm curious now, what my levels are. I think they were probably lagging before but my energy is really incredible now that I"m using more and more of the ED. (So far no real weight gain, but fingers crossed.)

Just curious if others have had good results (or not) or similar experiences, and would suggest it to anyone interested in exploring something new/ else to try, if feeling comfortable with the idea.

I am using Integrative Therapeutics- Physician's Elemental Diet.

Many thanks to all!
Best~

H Jacqueline,

Yes, a few have tried it, some with success, some without success. The problem with products such as that is that even though everything on the label looks safe, there are so many dozens of ingredients that many people will react to one or more of those ingredients when they are combined. It may work well for you, but if you start having any symptoms, please be aware of this problem.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

My personal experience and observations of hundreds of members here, what works well for one, may not work for another.

This applies to meds, foods, functional treatments etc.

Everyone is different. Age, lifestyle to this point, health issues, nutritional imbalances that impact healing etc.

If something you do (be it eating plan, lifestyle, supps, functional treatment, functional based input like elemental ) provides more benefit than symptom, it is affordable to your budget, go for it.

.. yes, so far so good... but only very cautiously.
As Tex pointed out, the many-ingredient fear lingers even though it seems to be going well.
For now, I'll keep the dose low, pay attention and proceed.
thanks for the insight!
