Protein Shakes

I was doing some research on dairy, soy and gluten free protein shakes and I found this. It seems to have quite a bit of protein and calories for those who are finding it hard to eat a lot.

So, I tried the Plantfusion, vanilla. It was okay. A banana would definitely help matters.

I also tried Garden of Life Raw Meal... not so good, way too thick, maybe I should have used water instead of almond milk. I was hoping to like it because it's an entire meal made by someone with Chrons (so I was told). I'm not done sampling though :smile:

Ok.... just finished Plant Fusion chocolate protein shake. I had it with vanilla coconut milk and I must admit it was okay. Lots of calories between the two but also tons of protein and some fat from the coconut milk to hopefully hold me over til lunch. Hopefully I am able to stomach this as I need a change in what I eat. It's got a bit of an after taste, maybe from the stevia.

I use 2 different protein shakes. 1 I get from my doctor, it's a vegan meal replacement shake. Chocolate is the better flavor of the choices he has to offer. They are made by a company called Physician Nutrients. SF, DF, GF, Sugar Free, Non GMO.
The other is my back up in case the one I get from my Doc goes on backorder. It is called Vegan Smart All In One Nutritional Shake. I'm a chocolate girl so I haven't tried any of their other flavors. The Vegan Smart one is quite sweet so I try to tone it down with coconut milk.
I have given up on food at this point so I have a shake a day and bone broth the rest of the time.
I've done homemade rice milk/water for a couple of weeks now but it's not really all that great lol.

Hi Becky,

Just an observation — if the reason why you've "given up on food at this point" is because of an MC flare, the problem might be due to the chocolate. Chocolate is a high histamine food and many of us cannot tolerate it, as it triggers our MC. Also, many of us cannot tolerate many highly processed foods such as protein supplements when we are in a flare. After we are in remission we are much more likely to be able to tolerate them (provided that their ingredient list is safe).

I soak my walnuts the night before. Then I add strawberries, bananas, kiwi, almond milk and a small amount of orange juice in my blender. Simply delish and I get my protein, fruit and nutrients. No problems with my GI system. Yummy!!!! Make sure you soak the nuts. Dorothy

Hmm. These products mentioned have pea protein and inulin, which bother me. For another solution, Lately I have mixed "Naked Rice" protein with some hemp protein powder and Super Seed. An inch of banana for sweetness if don't want the flavor of a whole one. Almond milk. Or Rice milk.Blueberries or cocoa powder. A small handful of raw spinach doesn't bother me.
Or 1-2 tablespoon s hydrolyzed collagen for the protein. Just some ideas.

Gundrymd.com has a Proplant chocolate shake. Flax, hemp, spirulina for protein. Pretty yummy actually, but really pricey at $112. I tried one when it was on 1/2 sale when first marketed.
