I am sure this happens more often than we would like to think.

I am still struggling with physicians who insist my problem is IBS even though my colonoscopy biopsy came back positive for LC. I have yet to find a doctor who knows what to do. I keep losing weight, but am told, "you look fine" it's just a case of IBS. I get the usual prescription for anti-spasmodics and various anti-depressants which have done absolutely nothing for me. At this point, I am at a loss as to what to do. I'm following my diet, but symptoms persist.

Stick with the diet. I don't know when you started it, but most of the time it takes roughly 6 months to a year or more to reach remission. The digestive system heals slowly.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi BarbieAnn-
It took me 2 to 2 1/2 years to reach remission and I was rigidly gluten free, soy free, dairy free and egg free. It is well worth the work. Try to find ways to get calories- I added Earth Balance soy free butter to my foods and started pan frying foods in olive oil. I also roast my vegetables in olive oil or coconut oil. When my diet was getting so boring I couldn’t stand it, I started adding sage and rosemary to my chicken dishes and started making my own turkey sausage. I had no trouble handling herbs and spices (I avoided chili peppers). If you can handle coconut milk I have a sausage and gravy recipe using my turkey sausage that is pure comfort food. I’ll share it if you want it.

Best wishes, Carol

I started my diet approximately 9 months ago. I have periods where I feel a bit better, but then the symptoms start all over again - incontinence, nausea, etc. I am definitely sticking to my diet no matter what, but I just get frustrated at times, because it seems like I've been feeling crappy forever.

Carol, did you try acupuncture? My primary doc had advised me to see an acunpuncturist that she knows that says she can help me with the symptoms while I heal. When I hear people say that it took 2 years for them to heal, I actually have hope. DId anything else with coconut help you?

Hi BarbieAnn,
Yes I did acupuncture to deal with nausea and fatgue. It was definitely helpful for nausea. Without nausea I could eat better with a better variety of foods. It was very much worth the money.
I can’t say anything else with coconut helped me, but when trying to add calories to your diet, fats will provide the most.
