Raging head cold!

Post by Janie »

I have a virus which gave me a sore throat and raging head cold for 6 days. Now I am in a flare. I went back to basics I eat venison, lamb, pork and turkey with lamb bone broth. Stopped all my supplements and using topical Magnesium. I am taking Vitamin D. I am just using loperamide. Don't want steroids due to reaction to meds and also my osteoporosis.
Any other helpful hints would be appreciated. It is hard to leave the house with this kind of watery diarrhea. Also drinking plenty of water.
Thanks everyone.

I don't have any suggestions but I hope you get results from the diet changes soon. That's one of the ugly side effects of this disease — it likes to add insult to injury.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Rest, time, personal steamer (about $30 at walmart or drugstore for head cold), bags of frozen peas for any head cold pain, boxed GF chicken broth (if you can tolerate) to sip on,

Netflix,

You are really doing everything right. You are doing everything I do when I am in a flare to get out of it.

Meditate/prayer/calm your mind to destress. On some prior situations I've set my cell timer to go off every 2 hours then
meditate for 5 minutes repeat every 2 hours.

Positive self talk/positive mental attitude. One thing that struck me when I had a reflare was HOW BAD IT REALLY IS. When
I am in remission life is pretty darn good and I kind of forget HOW BAD IT WAS.

Spend about 20-30 minutes in the sun per day. Vitamin D. Lay out in the sun for 30 minutes. If you work go outside on your
lunch break and/or 10 minute breaks and hang out in the sun.

Do little detail things in your house like clean out one dresser drawer which you never have time to do when you are healed
and out and about.

Read positive books.

Hi, Janie. Brandy always comes through with great suggestions. You might want to try diffusing essential oils. I diffused Immune Strength when I had the flu and it really helped. Rocky Mountain oils are a good grade. I also soaked in Epsom Salt which made me feel a lot better. Drinking bone both and using NeilMed sinus rinse works wonders, too. I use the sinus rinse a couple of times a week just to keep things clear. I hope you feel better soon.

I swear by my essential oils.......I use Young Living.......they have one called Thieves.........it is great..........I used it in the classroom and didn't get sick at all. It's got antiseptic properties. I diffuse every night when I go to bed. I use different ones for different symptoms.

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I am dealing with this nasty flare of diarrhea. The head cold is long gone but not the flare.

Increase Vit D intake while you are recovering from cold and flare

20 minutes in the sun each day will boost immune system function (and thus reduce inflammation)

is it possible the cold was also a combo of histamine issues?? and this has also contributed to the flare
if so - vit D3, magnesium and B6 will be most helpful

happy healing

Jari, I've heard of the YL Thieves oil. I want to get some before the winter season. Thanks for the reminder.

Janie - I hope you feel better soon!

Ah the raging head cold and it’s discontents! There is one going round that is felling people here. The Doctor charmingly said " well it’s not flu because you would be on the floor and not able to get up!"
I personally swear by sinus washes like NeilsMed. They have got me through colds and secondary sinusitis without antibiotics. It takes a bit longer.

Well, after a month of watery diarrhea and minimal diet (meat and well cooked veggies) I was put on budesonide. Dr. was worried about weight lost. Didn't want to do it but couldn't see anyway to knock this out. My stool are now mushy not watery. Been on it 5 days.
I worry about my supplements like Methyl guard plus and all my Vitamins, should I take them now? Been without them for a month. I still take VitaminD and Magnesium. I've been taking Allegra because, Gabes thought their might be a histamine reaction to the cold so she suggested zinc and vit b6 but wasn't sure if I was reacting to supplements.
Thanks for your help. I feel pretty down right now! Trying hard to relax.

When I have a cold yes twice a day. It prevents secondary sinus infection. But not every day after that. Perhaps every second day and after I’ve been in bad air like a flight. Many cabin crew do the same.
