Flu Shot(?)

Post by Pam V »

I am not on the forum as much as I was earlier but I still check in from time to time and find all of your posts and advice so valuable. I truly wouldn't be feeling as well as I do without all of your help and advice.

Now that the cooler weather is approaching, I am starting to get notices from the PCP's office that flu shots are available. I didn't get a flu shot last year (first year w/MC) and wasn't a huge fan of them in the past (worked at a hospital). My husband does have a lung condition so I do want to ensure that I am doing all that I can to keep the flu out of our home. My Enterolab tests revealed sensitivity to gluten, casein, egg and soy. I'm just wondering what the consensus is with flu shots - do they affect MC and/or cause problems?

Thank-you so much!

Pam,

I used to get a flu shot every year faithfully (I was and still am a teacher and around germs all the time), but the last 3 years, I haven't gotten one and I've done ok. I was scared because of the egg thing. While I can eat eggs now cooked in baked stuff, I'm still leery of putting poison in my body. I watch my hands a lot and use Thieves oil in my diffuser. I've kept the germs at bay!

Best wishes,

I think you would enjoy one. I use it at night. When my allergies are bad or I have a cold, etc., I diffuse Eucalyptus. I use peppermint when I have a touch of a headache. Thieves oil is a young living brand.

I am so glad that someone else has mentioned thieves. I just love it along with many others. Just make sure you so your research and get pure oils, they can help Support so many of our systems. Young living is a excellent brand. That are very careful to make sure their oils are pure. Although, all their oils are pure and have nothing that can affect any allergies, but careful to read the ingredients in the blends and other products for for soy and gluten. I have had to give up a few of my favorite YL products such as Shampoo, conditioner and foaming hand soap due to Vit E having soy base and gluten. Just a helpful warning.

I had my first flu shot last year, a year+ into MC and I had no problem. My antibodies are gluten, casein, egg and soy.

I never had any GI reactions to flu shots prior to having MC. I just had a flu shot last week, now being into biopsied MC-L for five months, and had no reactions to it. For more specific context, it it's relevant, I've never reacted to eggs before or after MC. Here are the official CDC recommendations regarding Flu Vaccine and People with Egg Allergies:

In Australia this winter the flu vaccine given did not protect against the strains of influenza circulating, so it was useless for 40-50% of people who had it.

I am fairly proactive about germ protection (hand washing avoiding sick people etc) and Any time I felt poorly (generally after unavoidable contact with sick people) I would boost my VIT D3 intake and rest.

Looking after ourselves is the best protection we can offer.
