No one has recommended a doctor from there. We don't know if that's because no doctor qualified to treat MC exists there or because none have been discovered by members.

Tex, I was looking through this thread to see if there were any recommendations in the Gainesville, FL area. My health insurance is through the University of Florida so all Tier 1 doctors are affiliated with UF Health / Shands. My first GI appointment was with a celiac specialist (Anil Sharma), whom I don't recommend. Because I am trying to find a Tier 1 GI specialist through the university that will be open to my desire to try a diet change before incorporating Budesonide, I asked my internist to help me chose between four potential specialists. One of which (Sarah Golver) is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel and Celiac Disease program. Note that none at UF Health state a specific clinical interest in MC, rather UC, Crohn's, and celiac, but Dr. Sarah Glover's specialty is mast cell issues in the GI tract. Despite wanting to be referred to her for her mast cell experience, I was informed that she would not be a good fit with my chosen path as she is pro-prescription drugs like budensonide - not dietary changes. So, she may not make your short list, but bc of her expertise in GI mast cell issues I thought that you may at least be interested in looking at her background/list of pubs and knowing she's out there.

As a side, there is a Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville (about 2 hrs NE of Gainesville) and there is one doctor there that has a clinical interest in MC. The only other one listed on this page is in MN so it's worth noting. He's still on my radar if things just don't work out with UF.

I live in Gainesville and have seen Dr. Glover at UF/Shands. She recommended GF diet. She says she recommends it for
all of her MC patients as they seem to do better. I had already been GF for a number of months and was actually
off of budesonide when I saw her. (My employer kind of forced me to go for a second opinion. ) She retested
my biopsy slide for mast cell count as original pathology report did not give this figure. The only reason I"ve not
listed her before is that I think she "over tests." I paid for $3000 for useless allergy blood work and she scheduled
me for an MRI that I overslept and never went to.

Another MCer on this forum had a negative experience. PM me for info.

She is a very smart cookie and will spend unlimited time with you.

I have a friend who works with all of the gastro docs at UF/Shands. She recommended Dr. Glover to me. She thinks
that Dr. Glover is more open minded and the other gastro docs are more narrow in scope if that makes sense.

It takes about 45 days-60 days to get an initial appointment with her. I've seen her twice I think. I basically
healed myself through this forum before I saw her.

Mayo Jax is right up the road but I never saw anyone there.

Thanks for the insight, Brandy,

I'll add that caveat to the information about her.

Don't like doctors in Savannah

Post by dolson »

Thanks y'all. I refuse to see any GI specialist in Savannah, GA. They are downright rude and uncaring. They don't listen and make up FAKE APPOINTMENTS. Yes, FAKE APPOINTMENTS! I saw one in Savannah, did a grueling 72 hour fecal test and could never get my results. Took two months and I called them for results which were wrong. I never saw him again and did not make another appointment. While living in Austin, TX, they called and told me I had an appointment the next day in Savannah. I got angry and told them to stop making up FAKE APPOINTMENTS. This hospital has done this to me three times and once to my Mom. I have no gastroenterologist. Do y'all know where I can go for a good, honest and knowledgeable GI specialist? It ain't in Savannah.

Dorothy
Why do you want to see a GI Specialist?

unless you want a script for medication option there is not much else a GI Specialist can do for you.

you have the diagnosis, and all the information you need to heal and get better is here.
at this stage it is time to stop looking for alternative answers, and stick with healing eating plan for a few months, and be 'settled' with that.

Hi Dorothy,

This list contains the contact information for at least three gastroenterologists practicing in other cities in Georgia. Note that there is also a naturopath listed in the next to last position (near the bottom of the list). I can't vouch for these recommendations — they were made by other members several years ago. Because of that, some of the contact information (or web site links), may be out of date. And remember, everyone's description of a "good" doctor may be different in some points that someone else may consider not so good.

Gabes, you are 100% correct. Why do I need a gastroenterologist? The only reason I would need one is for a colonoscopy. I don't know if this disease puts us at risk for cancer or not. I think not. My friend with Celiac has cancer of the lining of her stomach. She was always bloated and I wish she would've done something about the celiac. She didn't know she had Celiac. I don't want to lose my great friend. I just lost a play friend my brother's age - 71 years old from bile duct cancer. He was an emergency room doctor. A great person. What is going on, y'all?

I agree Gabes. I get all my answers from Wayne's forum. I would be lost without y'all.

Sorry I'm duplicating my post. I can't delete one. Thanks for the list of doctors. Most are around crazy crowded Atlanta. Just as bad or worse than Austin.

Hi Dorothy,

Yes, untreated gluten sensitivity carries an increased risk of cancer, mostly Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. If treated properly, though, that increased risk declines to the same risk as someone in the general population in a few years.
